it is the fight to make at one seventy five. they have both been champions in the division long enough now & have established themselves as the two best in the division for me. both these guys won their belts in twenty seventeen, terence only moved to one forty seven in twenty eighteen & we get all the errol v terence talk about the fight not happening but artur & dmitry are in the same boat

I have always believed that Beterbiev is the best light heavyweight and hope he beats Joe Smith to force Bivol to face him next.

In fact Canelo should insist that Bivol does that otherwise he will not rematch him for the good of boxing.

I know it is a diva move but in this case I am in favour of it.

I hope Bivol accepts the fight and not wait for Canelo or do somthing stupid like go down to super middleweight.

Agree- this is the fight the sport needs and both fighters need. This should happen soon- Beterbiev is 38 and his style is the type that once he slips out of his prime, the fall is drastic and not incremental.

If ever there was a mega fight so obvious and needed this is it. And frankly given the 'diva' nature of a lot of top guys today, these two don't strike me as adverse to big challenge or protecting a meaningless 0. All the nonsense..imo..with Bivol melting down for the convivence (and dollar) of Canelo is in some part what is really wrong with boxing today. Who even wants that fight fan wise . I can see Bivol having uncharted trouble with Beterbiev style wise and Beterbiev may just benefit to it happening as some are writing him 'on the other side' after Saturday. Great style clash and all on the line. But the writing is on the wall for politics to possibly fark this up. Inside they'll shovel Smith to Beterbiev as mandatory, or step aside ? and outside both may catch roadblocks with Nationality or residence stuff happening.

Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol is one of the best fights that could be made in boxing today, but won’t be happening this summer.

Talks for the undisputed WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO light-heavyweight world title showdown have collapsed over money, Bivol and his manager Vadim Kornilov have confirmed.

WBA champion Bivol won all of boxing’s notable Fighter of the Year awards last year after his shock win over Canelo Alvarez and impressive defence against Gilberto Ramirez.

WBC, IBF and WBO champion Beterbiev unified three titles by beating Joe Smith Jr last year, then knocked out Anthony Yarde in a stunning mandatory defence in January.

Following this win, talks began to try and make a match between the two Russians, however this has not come to fruition.

Bivol told Big Fight Weekend: “All this time I tell my team, ‘Let’s make this fight, let’s make this fight.’

“They were discussing, but finally they told me there is nothing interesting for all of us for business, it’s nothing for this time.

“Maybe next fight we could talk because there is not a good offer for this fight [now].”

Kornilov explained: “There were discussions for June/July, but the bottom line is what was being discussed was not serious enough to make the fight happen at that point.

“We were talking about trying to make the fight in June/July, whether it was gonna be in the UAE or the USA.

“But the numbers that were brought up – what we were trying to materialise, it was just not materialising.

“There are two sides to that fight, they’re both pound-for-pound fighters, they’re both top ten pound-for-pound fighters and they both want to make money.

“They both want this fight to be worth their while. I believe that they feel the same way we feel.

“What was being talked about in June/July was just not at the level of the fight and that’s why it didn’t materialise.”

Now Bivol looks most likely to wait until September for his next fight.

It is possible that he could defend his belt against Jaime Munguia in the meantime, but this is not a fight that overly excites the champion.

In September, Bivol could move down in weight to make a more lucrative rematch with Canelo for his undisputed WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO super-middleweight world titles instead.

Beterbiev meanwhile has been ordered to defend against WBC mandatory Callum Smith next.

Oh yeah, Bivol vs Beterbiev would definitely be a banger of a fight! Both fighters are beasts in the ring and it would be interesting to see who comes out on top. Hopefully, the fight gets made and we get to see these two warriors go at it.

It seems like Bivol is wanting to face Canelo even coming down in weight to get the fight signed rather than face Beterbiev.

Dmitry Bivol has labelled the World Boxing Council’s ban on Russian boxers ‘unfair’, as he looks ahead to his next fight.

The Kyrgyzstani-born Russian holds the WBA light-heavyweight title and has been linked with a bout against Artur Beterbiev, who holds the WBC, WBO and IBF belts.

Russian-born Beterbiev represented his country of birth until last year, when he opted to represent Canada – where he has lived for 16 years – amid sporting sanctions relating to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Among those sanctions was a decision by the World Boxing Council (WBC) not to recognise Russian and Belarusian fighters, including champions.

That decision also precludes Bivol, 32, from fighting Beterbiev, 38, in a unification bout at light-heavyweight, despite strong demand from fans.

“Of course it’s not fair,” Bivol told Seconds Out on Monday (12 June). “How could [someone] say, ‘I am the champion of the world,’ if somebody from some country couldn’t fight for your belt? But this guy could be better than you.

“It’s not fair. And this guy is just training, spending his time in the gym, and he’s not allowed to fight. He’s the same [as] you, he’s just living in a different apartment in a different place, but he’s working the same [as] you.

“He’s training, he’s fighting, his mentality is similar, but why is he not allowed to fight? It’s not fair.”

Bivol last fought in November, comprehensively outpointing Gilberto Ramirez to retain the WBA light-heavyweight title, which he also retained in his previous fight, against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in May 2022.

Meanwhile, Beterbiev most recently fought in January, stopping Anthony Yarde in the eighth round. He is next due to box in August, defending his titles against another Briton, Callum Smith.

It's all politricks by the wbc. If the criteria for this bs is birthplace, why are they still ranking guys and Arum still putting them on the air under the Jared Anderson fight. Bivol hardly strikes me as a Russian puppet and spokesman and a "major" sanctioning body should be about the merits of the individual fighter and the biggest fights. Meanwhile they collect their fees and taxes regardless . Think about a 'ban' on Nationality, penalizing the sportsman and it doesn't end. Where do you draw the line? Apply this to fighters from Belarus ? who are teasing nukes for Russia? China and Iran providing drones and equipment? It's bullshat.
