You may make me taint his mind with the Rosendo Alvarez which is the fight I saw. You want to bring up controversy, you want to bring up an ass kicking, you want to bring up an undefeated fighter deserving to lose and getting out by the skin of his teeth when the world knows he lost. You don't look at Zab Judah Floyd Mayweather... you look at Ricardo Lopez vs. Rosendo Alvarez which is the fight I saw. Only fight I've seen of him.

He was a good fighter Starr, and maybe Alvarez beat him that time, although it was a draw, but he came back to beat Alvarez in the rematch, and Alvarez was very good in his prime at that weight, and Finito overall had no losses.

You should check him out more than just that one fight, you'd like him, very technically sound, good boxer.

Great fighter. Should IMO, be considered an all-time great for sure.

When Roy Jones Jr. was in his prime, and p4p #1, I heard him say in an interview that, Finito should be the p4p champ, because he was the best boxer on the planet.

I would love to, but I truely had never even heard true noise of him up until that Alvarez fight. I had heard about him a lot but never seen him and had all these expectations that he was the next this and already a this, and then I saw the Rosendo Alvarez fight on the Chavez Gonzalez card, and I felt let down, i'd love to see him in his prime(but I thought the Alvarez fight was his prime) what happened?

It was strange, He always seemed disciplined but he came into the fight overweight and had to give up his belt on the scales and didn't have a good night. Alvarez was good though back then but Lopez won the rematch 8-4 IMO.

do u guyz think he ranks higher than erik morales P4P. coz he and erik have mad beef.

He was one of those guys you could always count on for a win. He had a long prime from like 91-97 . He usually made easy work of his opponents but he fought Alvarez when he was undefeated and he wasnt a bad fighter at all. Both were close fights but i thought Lopez won both. He is one of the only long reigning champions to retire undefeated. Truly an ATG. Too bad the minimumweight division has never been very popular cause he was a graet fighter and has some great fights

IMO he was a better boxer, no doubt better technically IMO, but because of his weight he wasn't able to fight the noticeable opposition that Erik did so he probably won't go down as high as Erik on most people's lists

no idea, it doesn't seem likely that a guy as slick as him could get beat and knocked out that much but I have no idea

I would say no just because the guy who lost all those fights started in 1979 and the good Finito was only 13 in 1979

Not to mention he was going up against future world champions in his first few pro fights. That incredible that he was even in the ring with those guys

That would explain it if that is truely him at 13

Ricardo Lopez never lost as an amateur nor did he lose as a pro. He had one draw and that was when Lopez was 34,35 and against a guy that is still fighting at a world class level. That irst fight wa the worst of Lopez's career,and I saw at least a dozen before that one and have since acquired tapes of 7 or 8 more. He fought Sorjaturong,who tkod Chiquita Gonzalez and kod himin 2 rounds.
Chavez was considered among the top 3 p4p, if not the best, for years and all along he said that, wts being equal, Lopez would've kod him. The only clean punch I recall Lopez taking was the right by Alvarez that floored him, and he absolutely destroyed over a dozen southpaws, 7 in title defenses. He could fight inside or stick andmove and he had ko power in every punch.
For my $ the best fighter in the last 30, 40 years.

yea I heard roy say the same thing

finito's draw was based on a cut. A cut was open and it went to the cards. Rosendo was amazing back then. He had a jaw of steel and was the Tyson of the flyweight division. Finito was in my mind at that point of his career on his way down. Not by much but certainly he was older. Alvarez-Lopez I, was a draw. The second fight fight however, really showed FInito's skill and guts. He took it to Rosendo and won a brutal fight.

Rosendo Alvarez just fought Arce last weekend. He is now 36 and if you think about it, he was tough as an ox still. Arce beat him with a body shot but that just cause he was old and could no longer fight. If you remember the first rounds however, you got a glimpse of a young Alvarez, tough as nails and he could walk through people's punches.
