i'd take william over edgar. it's funny the double standards. frank martin is considered a good opponent for tank but jaime & william are brushed off for canelo

Yeah, I'd put money on that. Berlanga checks all the right boxes for Team Canelo. With the added bonus that he's a true 168-pounder. Being Puerto Rican is the icing on the cake. It's a no-brainer for me. This one just fell into Canelo's lap. After Berlanga, the possibility of Crawford looms large. Canelo had at one point said he'd only fight Bud at 168. But I'm sure the whispers in his ear probably warned him against public opinion on that one... and it seems Canelo might even decide to "sacrifice" himself and drop to 160. Of course, rehydration would take care of that particular issue... and we'd have yet another instance of Canelo fighting a much smaller fighter, when he practically ignored the one 168-pounder that was ready and willing, and would've knocked the red out of Ginger's hair.

That's what they're counting on. A fanboy choice between two terrible options is actually not having a choice at all. I enjoy a good steak as much as the next guy but I'm not going to stick my head up a bull's ass for a high price nibble and pretend it's fine dining . It's gar'bage that they're even in the conversation for Canelo.

Think I said the Munguia fight would be a "fun fight" was "a good match (for what Canelos willing to face)" and "pretty solid" once announced...So I don't know of double standards you speak of. Feel free to scroll back. Shoot, I was ten times more critical of the predictable Charlo circus blow out than I was any Munguia fight. That was his pass to get to a more serious fight.

Both Berlanga and Scull have been 'positioned'. They've done nothing. At all. But Berlanga has the local familiarity if only for all the wrong reasons and old school PR v Mexico rivalry sells. And he's also very beatable which perks up the ears of retirement tour Canelo. I'm half expecting him to ride a golf cart to the ring for his fight intro.

the double standards weren't aimed at you directly just in general. frank was being talked about as one of tanks toughest opponents. i'd still take william over edgar

Chris Eubank Jr could be set to receive a stunning title shot against Canelo Alvarez.

Reports have indicated that Eubank Jr is in shock pole-position to land a shot against undisputed 168lbs champion Alvarez.

Reports from ESPN reporter Salvador Rodriguez claim that negotiations are already underway, and he is the primary option ahead of potential rivals Edgar Berlanga and Jermall Charlo.

It was expected that Alvarez will return on September 14 as traditional on the Mexican Independence Day weekend.

But this could now be pushed back as to not clash with UFC's plotted show in new Las Vegas venue The Sphere, which is being targeted for September 14 by Dana White.

I was hoping for Conor Benn. But not sure he can even fight in his own country again? I mean, not like divisions factor in, right? Historic name background, bit of a heel factor to build the conquering explorer and world traveler Canelo up. Exciting style and if they happen to form a bond of some sort perhaps they can share fine dining recipes for steak & eggs dishes served in a lab Petri dish . It's actually sad Canelo/boxing lost the Mexican Independence Day date that has become a staple. Ironically to the new ufc debut venture with Turki and Riyadh season. I wouldn't expect Canelo to fight on the date again.

Chis Eubank Jr.... Sure. Whatever boxing. Don't forget to gently scrub in between the toes of our bespeckled King Canelo with a luffa sponge and feed him grapes pre fight.

Crap fight, but I vote for it for selfish reasons.

I heard about this possibility the other day , it would be a kick in the bollocks for the U.K. promoters.
Eubank isn’t the name he once was at World level .This could be a stretch even for Canelo’s marketing team to sell and justify this.
    We’ll see.

Update! Looks like he’s signed with Boxxer (Ben Shalom) and that means , if it happens, Sky would take this fight in the U.K. naturally on Box office.

"I'm very excited to have signed with Boxxer and [promoter] Ben Shalom," said Eubank Jr. "They fit the direction I want to go in. We have big plans over the next 12 to 24 months.

"There are big fights in the pipeline and these guys can make it happen. This is a partnership. I have the freedom and the leeway to work how I want to work, which is very rare.

"I'm in a position of power. I'm in a position to really control the direction that I want to go in so I'm excited."

Eubank Jr has been heavily linked with a bout against Mexico's WBA, WBC, WBO and IBF super-middleweight title holder Alvarez, and says it is a meeting "the fans want to see".

He added: "It's a fight I think I could win. The fans want to see Canelo in with guys who are going to press him, who are not going to back down, who are not going to shy away and crumble under the pressure. The fight fans know that’s the type of fighter I am."

Shalom added: "We've had the privilege of working with Chris on some massive fight nights in the UK and there will be plenty more to come in the UK and worldwide. He is a bonafide pay-per-view star.

"The hunger and ambition is there. We can't wait to see him back in action and involved in some massive fights."
