Default Terence Crawford v Israil Madrimov

Terence Crawford moves up to junior middleweight to challenge WBA champion Israil Madrimov on Saturday, Aug. 3, at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles. (ESPN+ PPV, 7 p.m. ET). The WBO interim title will also be on the line.

Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs), of Omaha, Nebraska, is a two-division undisputed champion, a feat accomplished by only two other men boxers (Naoya Inoue and Oleksandr Usyk). Crawford is coming off an impressive performance against Errol Spence Jr. in July 2023. In that fight, Crawford dropped Spence three times to eventually score a ninth-round TKO win at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to unify all four major welterweight world titles.

Madrimov (10-0-1, 7 KOs), of Khiva, Uzbekistan, won the title by defeating Magomed Kurbanov by fifth-round TKO back in March, on the Anthony Joshua-Francis Ngannou undercard in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Madrimov, 29, is a decorated amateur fighter with almost 100 fights. He turned pro in 2018 and has notable victories over Raphael Igbokwe and Michel Soro.

Also on the card, heavyweight Jared Anderson steps up in competition to face Martin Bakole in a 10-round battle of power punchers. Anderson (17-0, 15 KOs), of Toledo, Ohio, is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Ryad Merhy back in April. He's consider the "next" American heavyweight.

Bakole (20-1, 15 KOs), of Kananga, Democratic Republic of the Congo, has won nine consecutive fights -- seven by stoppage -- since suffering the only loss of his career, a decision against Michael Hunter in October 2018.

Two other title fights are scheduled for the undercard. WBA junior welterweight champion Isaac "Pitbull" Cruz (26-2-1, 18 KOs), of Mexico City, takes on Jose Valenzuela (13-2, 9 KOs), of Sinaloa, Mexico, in a 12-round battle. And David Morrell (10-0, 9 KOs), of Santa Clara, Cuba, and Radivoje Kalajdzic (29-2, 21 KOs), of Belgrade, Serbia, will fight for the WBA vacant "regular" light heavyweight title.

Former unified heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr. (35-2, 22 KOs), of Imperial, California, faces Jarrell Miller (26-1-1, 22 KOs), of New York in a 10-round bout. To start the event, 2020 Olympic gold medalist Andy Cruz (3-0, 1 KO), of Matanzas, Cuba, takes on veteran Antonio Moran (30-6-1, 21 KOs), of Mexico City, in a 10-round fight.

    Kazakhs are the new Cubans

In the Olympics next week, if anyone is drawn against a Kazakh ? GOOD LUCK

And Crawford is facing an unbeaten Kazakh power puncher who's in the prime of his life, a title holder whose just come off a career best destructive performance and Crawford is moving up in weight. GOOD LUCK

I imagine it will be his toughest opponent.

Maybe Crawford and his team are underestimating him or don't know much about him, or possibly they have sparred before or something. Strange they are so quick to take the risk.

Crawford has somehow managed to have 40 fights whilst barely having fought any legit punchers, especially ones his size, let alone legit KO artists. I'm not saying he's been ducking punchers as such but rather he's just been extremely fortunate in the regard that the minefields he's had to traverse spanning three weight divisions have been full of of non life-threatening mines.

He's fought a ton of absolute feather-fists and average punchers (Brook, Khan, Porter, Spence, Avanesyan, Horn) at best and on one of the only occasions he fought a legit banger his size in Egidijus "Mean Machine" Kavaliauskas he got dropped and Madrimov is levels above Kavaliauskas and for the first time Crawford is facing a LIGHTS OUT puncher.

If Madrimov is able to land his bombs with any consistency and get past Crawford's much longer reach and stiff-arming I'll be surprised if he doesn't hurt him badly, drop him.

Much respect to crawford for taking this fight.

    Prediction ?

Well, stylistically if you could throw Mike Tyson and Prince Naz in a pot and mix them up, the result would be Madrimov.

And I think he takes this, he'll enter the fight as an outsider, but he actually has everything he needs to overcome Crawford, Madrimov by TKO.

The man is from the same part of the world as Triple G.

    Hombre, even looks like him

Some incestuous sh*t going on over there I reckon, but that's for another time. Madrimov has three hundred amateur fights, he's not some novice, you either beat him or he beats you down. If bud shows any signs of being 36 he's going to get knocked down and if he can't get Madrimov's respect he gets knocked out, simple as that.

where do you get the impression that israil is a power puncher? i'll admit he's a decent puncher but not some one punch knockout artist

what about being from the same part of the world & looking like ggg show's israil as a power puncher?

what about his amateur fights show israil as a power puncher?

israil may be unbeaten but he hasn't knocked out all his opponents

if bud gets old over night wouldn't that be more because bud got old than israil's power punching?

did raphael igbokwe, emmany kalombo & eric walker get israil's respect? is that why he didn't stop them? did michel soro not get his respect so the ref let the fight go after the bell?

israil might train with dmitry & i'm sure he'll be well prepared. he looks in tremedous shape already. i also think this will be a difficult fight for terence but i'm asking you what gives you the impression that israil is such a power puncher?

I'm looking forward to this card & especially this fight
    Madrimov is tricky
His movement & angles will be a difficult puzzle for Crawford to solve
Madrimov could be the best 154 in the world
I'm interested to see how Crawford goes about this matchup

interesting look. Really like when they look into the bigger picture of a fighter. Random thought I keep asking myself though...is this "all-time great" anointment talk well carried away? Does averaging 1 fight a year over the last 5 really stamp that status. Something up for hindsight talk, just hope for a highly competitive main event.

They are trying to build Madrimov up as if he is the second coming of GGG or something. Bud may end up stopping this guy before 7...

"For me next it’s Jarrell Miller; god willing we get that win and hopefully I’d love to run it back with Joseph Parker," said Ruiz Jr.

Joseph Parker defeated Ruiz Jr back in 2016 in his native New Zealand via majority decision to claim the vacant WBO heavyweight title.

The fight was very close with many believing Ruiz Jr had done enough to get his hand raised.

"I’d love to get that rematch," Ruiz Jr continued. "Of course, I rate Jarrell Miller. Any fighter inside that ring is dangerous.

"You can’t underestimate nobody. We’ve got to be prepared. We’ve got to be ready for whatever comes our way. We’ve just got to get that win.

"The main thing is just getting the victory, getting back in action and getting ready to fight those big boys.

"Me personally I would like to have two fights, against people that are in the top ten or top fifteen.

"I’ll fight against anyone else after this fight. I just want to fight the top guys man.

"Joseph Parker is doing amazing things right now. He beat Wilder and he beat Zhang. I’d love to fight him too.

"I had a lot of rollercoasters and a lot of up and downs over the years since my last fight against Luis Ortiz.

"I had surgery on my shoulder. I had some ‘baby mumma’ drama but guess what?

"I’m back, I’m ready to go and I’m ready to become and two-time Heavyweight Champion of the World."

Caught a couple discussions wondering how Bud is not as big or "well known" as say Leonard in his time. Is this really a mystery? If anything Leonard was overexposed but also a generational and era brand builder. And activity, consistent multi network exposure and top comp was the absolute glue. Bud is just natural lowkey but that does not diminish his premier talent in the ring. But he burned momentum away after Spence. The problem is he comes around even less often than Christmas does.

Crawford is pure quality and so unappreciated. I have seen him easily beat our Ricky Burns and go up the weights beating everyone. I have wanted him to lose many times but he is just too good and wins all the time.

    He is an ATG.

    Hope he wins Saturday.
