Thread: Who had a better run of bums?

I was just watching an old interview of Larry Holmes and one of the reporters alluded to Holmes's opponents not being top tier guys. The Lucien Rodriguez's, Marvis Frazier's and Tex Cobb's of this world ain't top notch guys.

But, I said to myself, you know who else had a bum-streak? Joe Louis, after the Max Sharkey fight, he went on an amazing string of bums. I think they called it the "bum of the month club,"... Wlad Klitschko also has an impressive streak of bums, Alex Leapai and Francisco Pianetta... Deontay Wilder has a bum streak that boasts the likes of Molina, Spzlika and Washington...

So, my question to you: Which one of them, Holmes, Louis, Wlad or Wilder, has a more impressive streak of bums they beat up on? By impressive, I don't mean it in a "good way," where they were the best bums out there. I mean, they were impressive bums. lolol...

I'd say, by far, Louis has the most impressive bum streak, followed by a close second with Holmes. Then Wilder and then Wlad.

Joe Louis made a record 25 consecutive world title defences of his title which will never be beaten. He made a huge cultural impact during his lifetime which should never be underestimated.

Joe was so successful as heavyweight champion that his challengers were unfairly labelled “bum of the month club” which was meant as a complement to him and not to disparage his opponents.

The infamous bum of the month club was from January 1939 until May 1941. Joe made 13 defences during this time.

Remember this was all after he already made 4 defences which included avenging Max Schemeling.

From the 13 defences, 12 were rated top 10 in Ring magazine. Joe was knocked down by Galento, had to rematch Godoy after split decision, Buddy Baer was winning until being stopped as was Billy Conn who was the light heavyweight champion.

Joe had the strongest list of opponents and Wlad or Wilder would have the better run of bums.

You really want to compare Galento to Leapai? lol... or even Spzilka?

You can only fight who is put in front of you, in the circumstances that they are given and the situation they arise.

Would Wilder have won all 13 fights at that time period? I highly doubt it.

I can't keep a straight face when picturing Wilder and Louis in the same sentence. I steer clear of bum labels as it often gets thrown around loosely over the shoulder. Name the era and take a deep dive of the opponent's vs best fighters and you'll find a run of cannon fodder and stat padding stuntmen. The fact is journeymen fighters really do keep this sport revolving. The largest boxing movie franchise was centered around a "Bum" . But he was our "bum" and didn't slander the honor . But yes, Wilder collected more cans than a recycling factory .
