Default Good step up for Torrez Jr, but he is NOT "ready," yet!

Give the young prospect some more time. Don't rush him. Richard Torrez Jr had a great points win vs Guido Vianello on Saturday. Vianello is a good step up for him. I just don't think Torrez Jr is ready yet for the big BIG time and needs to be carefully guided, or else he may end up as damaged goods if he faces the wrong fighter at this time of his career.

He is no Jared Anderson. He is a little better than Anderson and has a better mindset. But, let's not push him too far too fast. He can develop a bit more. I say put him in there with two more has beens, like a Dawejko or maybe even a MakMudov and then step him up to a Hunter Jr or Bakole. Let's get this young man right!

Torrez is barely 6 feet. You need extraordinary footwork and movement if you want to compete at the top as a 6 foot HW.

    I'm talking movement like this

Anyway you do realize there is another thread about the Torrez- Guido fight ?

"Richard Torrez Jr had a great points win vs Guido Vianello" tell me you haven't watched the fight without telling me you haven't watched the fight

"Anyway you do realize there is another thread about the Torrez- Guido fight?" there used to be a racist mod here who only had an issue with an asian member posting duplicate threads & from what i remember the so called duplicate thread was a poll that the other thread didn't have & when the member asked why he was being treated differently he was banned. good thing that guy is no longer a mod

I didn't see the other thread. Plus, I wanted a separate thread on his development rather than speaking about the actual fight.

Agreed. In this age of super-sized heavyweights (and from what I've seen of Torrez... no knock on him), I just don't see him climbing to the top of the division.

Absolutely no problems posting an additional thread pertaining to a fighter and focused on different aspects of said fighter ffs. I've never been big on bottle-necking a topic under 1 lone thread. On the other hand, we never want to go back to 101 Manny threads that pop up on one fight weekend alone . There is 'merge' for a reason and used when needed. You're a member you're contributing and have something to say keeping interaction rolling,

Torrez is a good guy great story and shows all the willingness. But his limitations are more than obvious. You work with what you have, and he's not getting taller, cannot add weight other than a pudge body on that frame or growing his mustache out. He has little imagination as to how to get in behind a potential short stubby power jab and not convinced at all about his gas tank. Really the big reason I wanted the ref to stay the fook out of the way vs Guido and let Torrez shift thru gears or attempt adjustments...navigate unorthodox adversity as nearly every fighter he faces going up will be taller and they will only get more skilled. I'm not trying to shat on the guy and yes it's 'early' but to me he was blowing in the wind down the stretch. You mention Anderson and agree on having a better more focused mindset than Jared from what I've seen so far. One of Jared's bigger problems to me is his mental make-up, very scattered and comes off unsure. But can't agree that he's 'better' than Anderson, not fluidity or natural athleticism wise. Hunter Jr may be a bit much for Torrez at this point. Bog thing for many of these Top Rank rising contenders is that they are about to lose a very established platform and stage in Espn in July I believe. Be interesting watching Torrez going forward, but I have a feeling he's nearing his level rather fast, could be very wrong though. Wouldn't be the first time

I remember those days with great hilarity.
