It is close in every department.
legacy wise it is leonard, it is unfair to jones that his era didn't produce many greats. bernard was too green, toney was better at the heavier weight classes, and calzaghe came into the limelight a little too late.
but talent wise it has to be roy jones, roy jones in his prime won almost every round of a fight and never had trouble until father time caught up to him.
"Very few people really understand what it means to be a fighter. I hate it when I hear someone say, 'That fighter doesn't have guts. I hate that, I don't care if you're a world champion six times over or a four-round fighter, to step inside that ring, you have to have guts" Oscar De La Hoya
Leonard comfortable, I do not see constant, Hagler, Hearns, Duran and Benitez quality on Jones Jr's record. And I only see one glimpse of redemption. No come from behind wins, and many blown potential superfights.![]()
Both where very skilled fighters SRL could also win a fight through war and take many hard punch's and still win...roy cannot handle punishment.
Roy Jones never took a dangerous fight in his life the most dangerous fights were at his lower weights of Middle and Super Middle and Like someone else mentioned before Hopkins was green and Toney became great at higher weights...Ray Leonard fought them all...His 3 biggest opp's were 3 of the most dangerous men in the history of the game...Duran...Hagler...and Tommy Hearns...Those guys were assains and Ray went in full throttle Jones would of avoided them all
Hidden Content IN CASE THEY ALL FORGOT WHAT REAL HEAVYWEIGHT POWER WAS!!!
Yeah i agree....They both where even in terms of talent IMO but RJJ lacked the heart and chin of Ray Leonard.
haha.....im suprised JonesJuniorMayweather has posted yet![]()
I take SRL without a second thought

Imo, Roy spent many years fighting no-hopers just to pad up his glorious record as P4P 1........Sugar Ray was more consistant in his career and fought legends like Roberto Duran, marvin hagler, Benetiz, hearns etc in which Roy did not have......
People could debate all day on who Roy fought and didn't but he is still easily an time great imo
Ray Leonard without blinking. Like BritKid said, fighting Hearns, Hagler, Duran repeatedly and still coming out with people believing you are P4P 1 is a lot better than dancing around no hopers and showboating your whole career. The only time Roy showboated to a quality opponent was against Tarver in a last ditch attempt to out psyche the better man and win, and he looked foolish.
Roy didn't fight just no hopers, and the guys he beat were better IMO than the guys the Leonard beat except Duran. I don't think Hearns would have had a chance against Hopkins or Toney because they are too fundementally sound, and could take his shots. Hagler couldn't beat Toney IMO. As for Leonard he lost against Hagler and he lost against Hearns the second fight not to mention he was losing their first fight before Hearns' weak jaw showed up. McCallum said that Jones was twice as good as any of these guys. He's faster than any of them, and not just p4p, but he was actually faster at SMW than Leonard was at Welterweight. He hit way harder than Hagler or Hearns. In his prime he had a much better chin than Hearns, and Jones would beat Leonard to the punch p4p everytime, and he would be so much faster that Leonard wouldn't be able to compete.
Taeth you are a bit ignorant in terms of boxing no doubt. First off, while Im not saying hagler would definetly beat toney he sure as hell has a fantastic chance, hagler himself was a good counter puncher and halger could rough you up inside believe me when I say hagler would hit toney on the ropes all night long and that turning your back bullshitte wouldnt last long. But James could counter hagler so Im sure it would be a great fight. Id say Jones might beat hagler more decivley than toney but of that Im not even sure as leonard was a pretty tough sob when he had to be, roy sorry to say is limited in the amount of punishment he can take as he neve rhad to before. Leonard never got koed with 1 shot at the beginning or end of his first career.Stylistically hearns poses the bigger challenge to roy jones hes long has a good jab and killer right hand sounds a bit like tarver but with more punching power. In the end roy jones was bigger man than leanord so in a heads up fight Id give him the nod but no money would be wagered on roy against hearns, halger or sugar ray.
Roy never faced another fast fighter though, IM his biggest fan but toney was not a fast puncher at all just a methodical awesome defensive counter puncher the absolute wrong style for jones because toney has to wait on you, against jones not much of a chance. Hearns would give him problems, keep in mind tommy had a reach almost as big as larry holmes.
Ray leonard. A no brainer.
