Default Mayweathr- Delahoya (more than a fight )

I remember it like it was yesterday. A jab opens up a huge gash in the first round. Three rounds later it was over. Joe Cortez stops the fight on advice of the doctor and the fight was over. The passing of the torch had been complete. My hero Julio Cesar Chavez had lost by TKO and a young Oscar Delahoya was now the man to beat in boxing. On this day a great chapter in the novel that is boxing was closed, and another great one oppened. Now nearly a decade later it is time for it to happen again. Only this time Oscar is the old warrior and Mayweather is the kid with some thing to prove. While his speed might not be the same and his reflexes might be a tad bit tainted I think it would be foolish to say that Oscar does not stand a chance. He is a seasoned veteran whose skills in the ring can can match up with Floyd's really evenly. If you ask me he is one of the few men in boxing that can actualy beat Floyd. Such similar styles, so much at stake, and if by any chance Mayweather sr sticks with Oscar for this one, wow, what a story line. But forget all that. The point is that in order for Mayweather to realy be the man he has to go threw the man who has been the man in the light weight divisions for the past 10 years. So what if Oscar does not stand a chance, (not saying he dosen't) I stood by my hero ten years ago even though I must admit I had the feeling that it would all come to an end that night. This is for boxing, it is some thing that has to be done, and no matter the outcome this would be something special. I just hope for boxing's sake that this fight happens.

Lets hope Oscar shows he still has it and cleans Mayorga's clock!! If that is the case as i suspect it will... Then I'll ride with Oscar by SD.

If Mayorga beats DLH then what happens to the torch.

    Yes. Good Post. cc

I'm not like you guys, I don't like "passing the torch" fights. I hate it when greats lose to the next greats based on age, but it is a must in boxing.

If Oscar was a true hero,he would give Margarito a chance just like Oscar was given a chance by Chavez,Mexican to Mexican but instead, he is being a greedy bastard. I like Oscar but I have lost respect for him. He just recalls the pounding Margarito gave him in sparring when he was made to bleed.

oscar? the man at the light weight divisions..yeah right... oscar's great but come now..he beat one foot out the door sweet-pea, chavez, camacho, ...lost to trinidad and mosely...he beat campinella for the belt..who mysteriously was 21-0 when they fought...and 10-5 afterwards....weird....he did beat gonazales, and quartey, which was excellent. but i seriously doubt he was the man? I think it's more due to shane starting too small, sweet-pea being old, that his reign should be credited...because had a real slick boxer been there he would have already lost...as you saw when he fought shane...and the old sweet pea gave him fits...but he will beat Mayorga, but i wouldn't be suprised if he got ko'ed by a head shot because it just might be that time for him...

the only difference was that chavez best days were gone and dlh still has 2 or three great fights ib him--i truly believe that the time off is gonna be beneficial to him---i think hes gonna suprise people and come out and dominate mayorga in a thorough fashion and then go on to beat pbf and poss winky

Does anybody remember that last time PBF got in the ring with someone that he really believed could hurt him...Corrales...and PBF didn't even give him the chance to hit him...the risk to costly...much like he'd do against ODLH..and oscar seems to have lost his power since he's been focusing on throwing speed combos...anyway PBF wouldn't stand and trade with an accurate, historical boxer with real power such a ODLH, not to mention that Floyd Sr would be training him...PBF would circle the ring at three hundred times...

You can't compare De La Hoya to Chico?!? Also, the likelihood of the PBF-Oscar fight happening are low to say the least,Arum said a fight would not happen if Floyd is still with him and Oscar has been talking more and more about gaining revenge on Tito!! Now even though they are both past their best, Tito and Oscar would be a MEGA FIGHT,just give Tito some tune ups/bums,lots of promos etc and there you have it!

No he's not, but he still has to be set to deliver with power just as chico...and PBf wouldn't stay still long enough for that...

The only chance Oscar has to beat Floyd is if it happens at 154, and even then I'd say it's 50-50, not because Floyd would be so good, but because Oscar is getting old. At 147 Floyd has shown he's strong enough and comfortable enough to stand his own ground and not be bullied by anyone. And Oscar's not gonna come back down to 147 and just recapture his old superman form.

From 1997 to 2000 who would you have him fight from Lightweight to Welterweight that was better than Chavez, Gonzalez, Whitaker, Quartley, Mosley and Trinadad? The only name that comes to mind is Tszyu but he lost to Vince.. As far as I'm concerned with Mosely and Trinidad the right decision was made but it could have gone either way. In the rematch I believe Oscar out boxed Mosely and did enough to win. Dela Hoya deserves his props.

To put it in perspective just name another Lightweight that would of hung with Hopkins as well as Dela Hoya. It was no beat down.. it was 1 shot that stopped the fight.

No offense but Oscar would destroy Margarito very very badly.
