Thread: This is why you can't compare Margarito to Winky...

Many try to argue that Tony deserves a shot and this guy and that guy...But facts are he has four losses already and he hasn't beaten anybody of real note...three of his losses came against nobody's, and then he lost to santos recently. Some will try to use the well winky had three losses when he got his shot...(believeing that his shot was against Shane)

Well Winky started late...didn't turn pro until 20.....Winky learned on the job & didn't lose to nobody's while climbing to the top the hard way..he beat the fighters in front of him like potential champs are supposed to... after beating up a bunch of nobody's his record was (25-0)...earning him a shot at the WBA LMW belt, but he lost to then
(58-1) Vasquez, who's only loss was via DQ, his first real loss came against the great SWEET PEA...then Winky turned around and took the WBO belt from Bronco, he made three defences before losing to Simon who to this day is still undefeated and the reigning WBO LMW champ...finally his third loss came after a fight for IBF LMW belt..a controversial loss to Vargas...after Shane unified the LMW belts by defeating ODLH, Winky got his FOURTH SHOT at the title...and he beat Shane a great lightweight fighter but by no means a LMW...but Winky did beat him twice, then beat Tito...

So you see...Winky got his payday fight with shane because despite his three losses, he fought and beat the guys he was supposed to, and lost to champions...that's why when Shane saw the L's on his record,Winky was still however worthy because he lost to Champions not to guys like this....

Rodney Jones is a solid contender but by no means on the same level as the men Winky lost to....So Tony should get some real bargining power before he tries to win the lottery

Skel, i think he might be a bit out of his league on this forum...he's a layman....

His 3 losses were pretty much at the beginning of his career, he is a much better fighter than he was then. He's not as good as Winky Wright, but he deserves a shot

Holy shat man... I don't think Margarito would beat FLoyd or anything, but you can't say anything about those losses.. Check the dates. He was 16 for his first, then 17 next 2 losses. oooo yeah that's pretty telling. What was Winky doing at age 17? What is anyone? He lost to grown men as a kid, and that's suppose to take away from him? Those guys were the same age he is now.

You and I don't see eye to eye on many things but you DO make valid points,cc bro!!

Trust me man..i know the story of Margarito turning pro at an early age and all that crap..but whose fault is that? His right? Okay so don't ask everybody to forgive his losses because he decided to turn pro early...unless the tijuanna cartel made him fight...i really don't care what the reason was...he chose to jump in a grown man's sport and got beat plain and simple...I'm not saying he's not a good fighter...i'm just saying that a fighter with 4 losses on his record hurts marketing value...the general public don't know and could care less about the circumstance surrounding his losses...When people see that..they ask who did he lose to? If you ain't naming notable opponents, then it's a turn off...and it's even worse if you can't even name the fighters that he lost to...

What are you going on about man? Did he make a public statement beggins us to forgive him for losing Am I missing something? do you think maybe he would assume most people have some common sense to know that losses 12 years ago arent going to hurt him when he's only 28 now.

It's not common sense to know when his losses came...are you just supposed to assume that when a fighter has losses that oh he lost 12 years ago. We only that because we're boxing students,The general public doesn't know when his losses came...I just saying he wonders why he can't get a fight with a big money fighter..he can look to his record for the answer...when fighters see that, they say he's already been beat 4 times..and hasn't even fought anybody...so he hasn't loss at WW in a long time...but he did lose just four fights ago...and i don't get it he's the WBO champ..why is everyone saying give him is shot...PBF doesn't even have a real WW belt...why isn't he trying to unify the division?

The reason why you can't compare them is simply because Winky is a far better fighter/boxer than Margarito. Margarito deserves a shot earlier than Winky because he is a ko puncher who is exciting and fresh. Winky deserved a shot because he was one of the best in the business period.

margarito is a KO puncher his KO percentage is actually lower than PBF's...

Margarito 24 KOs in 38 fights = 63%

PBF 24 kos in 36 fights = 66%

just kidding, I know Tony is a puncher...... those are the percentage though

PBf doesn't have close to as many actual ko's as Margarito just TKOs, and PBF was a hard puncher at superfeatherweight.
