Default Impressive fact about Oscar De La Hoya

De La Hoya has never fought a fighter with a loosing recored. The worst record of any of his opponents was his second pro fight- 13-6-0

This is really impressive, in todays world of padded records.

Didn't Andre Ward fight a guy last saturday without a loosing record?

guys let us not get into the hubub of what a losing or a winning record indicates.

We should all look at the quality of opposition. I am more impressed with Oscar winning a gold medal, fighting Whitaker, Vargas, Mosely, Trinidad, Hernandez and Quartey, than with the worst record opponent he fought being 13-6-0.

Either way, ODH is hall of fame material.

I didn't realized that he already beat one Mayweather. Jeff Mayweather was his 5th match. Hmm, he beat up his trainer's brother.

The 1st part of De La Hoya's career was incredible. You look at him today and realize that he's a bona-fide junior middleweight or middleweight, and yet he started his pro career as a lightweight. He was a skinny guy who had not even begun to fill out yet, but had all the technique and strength of a seasoned veteran. He was a fantastic amateur and his manager put him in with good fighters right from his very 1st fight.

I thought about his career and his supposed wealth and the fact that some boxing fans don't really like him, and made a comparison with Gene Tunney. Their careers and lives were quite different but they had 2 things in common. They were successful from the start of their careers and were shrewd businessmen outside the ring. Tunney was never a popular fighter not only because he beat Jack Dempsey twice but because he was viewed as inacccessible to the average fight fan, an intelligent man who made lots of money in business after his career was over. Maybe De La Hoya still has his fans but I've noticed that some boxing fans hate him. Maybe it's envy or jealousy? I don't know.

Hate him because he gets more women. Hate him because he has more money. Hate him becauase he could whip you. Hate him because he's not as tough as you want him to be. Hate him because he has no heart. It don't matter what anyone says, Oscar has done what he needs to do, and has been good for boxing. I'm not a big fan, and I think he lost the first fight to Pernell, but on the other hand, I think he won the 2nd fight with Mosely. Oscar has had a good career. Give credit where credit is due.

Now, as of late. I think he's doing good business, but I despise what he's doing. He's pulling a Don King, trying to raqueteer the boxing world. However, that doesn't take away from what he has done in the ring.

I like Oscar cause he proves to me I can have a career in boxing and end my career without a broken face or nose :\

But in his older age he has become moreso full of shit, with the fake smiles and the rest of the nonsense. But he's a businessman now and most businessmen are snakes - can't blame em, it's the only way to survive around even bigger snakes like Don King and Bob Arum.

Not only that, it's a testiment of how well Top Rank raises it's top fighters. It's practically genius how Top Rank knows how to move it's top fighters intelligently. It moves it's fighters, not too fast, but not to slow either. Good in between, where a good fighter can become a solid fighter.

Everyone hates on him for the wrong reasons. As boxing fans we should judge him on his quality of opponents and his success against them, not for being a rich pretty boy that can take your girl and to top it off kick your ass.

    Let me correct that statement.

"Mexicans hate on him for the wrong reasons."

Its not only mexicans, whenever you're successful, rich, and unaccessible to people they beleive right away u beleive you're too good for them, and so they start with the hating. I dont give a shit about Oscar outside of the ring, just keep entertaining me inside of the ring Oscar i appreciate what you've accomplished in the ring.

There's so much to hate. He's super rich. Super handsome. Is a great fighter, and doesn't bad mouth other fighters. Maybe he's fake, but a fake smile has yet to hurt anyone. If that were the case then George Foreman would lay waste to everyone who watched him.
