Default A strange piece from Hatton concerning PBF

    Ricky Hatton
In an International Press conference held yesterday, Ricky Hatton was told that Bruce Trampler of Top Rank, Mayweather’s now former promoter had said that Ricky turned down a fight with Mayweather at least twice this year and that he would not be facing him this year. Hatton was asked if this was correct?

Here is what Ricky Hatton had to say on the subject:

RICKY HATTON: Well, me personally it wasn’t done but I mean I can’t be speaking for their – you know for my team or – to be honest this year it would be stupid to admit with a fight with Mayweather because I have so many problems with – problems outside the ring where my father promoted (INAUDIBLE) obviously we were sitting trying to do a deal with HBO.

I was in negotiations with that when my current promoter and he’s my new promoter, you know, from Artie Pelullo, Robert Waterman and Dennis Hobson. He was who had the court case with Souleymane M’Baye was claiming (INAUDIBLE) fight. There were so many things going on and it’s been difficult to – you know to basically get on with the fighting so to speak, you know, with the negotiations.

But I think the sensible thing is, you know, I’ve – I don’t think that when I come straight out of England and fight in the first time in America and fight Floyd Mayweather, you know. To be perfectly honest with you I think that would be a stupid thing to do.

I mean for instance Floyd Mayweather, you know, said on many occasions a few years back he would come to Manchester and he would fight me in front of me own crowd and he would knock me out and do all this crap what he’s been saying and now he’s all of a sudden decided – seems a bit cautious (INAUDIBLE) and don’t – during – over the last 12 months he didn’t want to come to Manchester.

So, you know, if I was going to be (INAUDIBLE), you know, maybe he don’t want to fight me. He said he was going to come to Manchester now he’s changed his mind. So I’m not inviting Floyd. Floyd’s not inviting me. You know and I had a lot going on in the last 12 months but me and Floyd will get it together. So I’ll fight everybody once but I think – you know I have not fight in the United States for a number of years now so I think it’s important that I’ve done my deal now with my new promoters and we’re with HBO and we know what direction we’re going.

Hopefully the court case with my (INAUDIBLE) promoter with (INAUDIBLE) – will get squashed and the case with Souleymane M’Baye and then you know we can start looking about positive things like a fight with Mayweather but it’s a been a difficult 12 months for me and ...

I mean I’m not saying that, you know, my feet have turned down a fight with Mayweather it may be that (INAUDIBLE) answer for them but there been a little bit confusion, you know, over lately what me team would be. You know, I’ve just only just recently signed with HBO and Dennis Hobson and Robert Waterman of Fight Academy and Art Pelullo of banner Promotions and it’s nice to know what direction you’re going in.

I think you need to know what direction you’re going in before you can make a decision like on a fight with Mayweather.

to be fair to hatton, he has had a tough year, what with leaving warren and court battles etc etc....

PBF and hatton wont meet this year, that much is sure....

its gonna keep cooking a long while while....i really hope hatton looks good against collazo...

maussa was tricky, a strong hatton performance will put my mind at rest somewhat...

Here's my thing with Hatton...I want to see him fight Floyd...but he himself has admitted that he was not ready.

He knows that & his fans know that...but for some reason lately everyone makes noise for notions of a different nature.

When the fighter himself says he aint ready...& he has...TWICE...then he aint ready.

    Period.

Rabid Hatton fans can disagree all they want...but he turned down the offer before...so he can wait in line till its his turn.

Well we're just getting to the point of which this fight has to happen. Pre-Kostya Tszyu I doubt anyone would of given Ricky a chance against PBF. Now that we seen he can neutralize someone like Kostya, theres no question he's the real deal. He's Floyd's Roberto Duran and Floyd is his Sugar Ray Leonard. Another year of waiting is gonna make it that much better and I personally think Mayweather is in for a rough night if this takes place at 147.

This should clear up alot.. Hatton is not ready to fight PBF. If hatton is not right mentally than he definitely should wait till next year. He might as well put off the beating for awhile so he can make the most of his soon to be over career. PBF is going to emberass Hatton...and Hatton knows it...His only hope would be for it to be in England because that's the only way he stands a shot at beating PBF..crooked judges...
It feels good to be back home.

Everyone is dying for this fight right now, I'd rather wait. PBF should defeat De La Hoya, then take out Margarito in Dec 2006 or Jan 2007. Hatton should take the belt off of Collazo. Then fight either Gatti or Baldy. There's plenty of great fights, I'd hate this one to be rushed just because we want to blow our loads right now. Hatton needs to establish himself on US soil and get a huge fanbase and PBF needs to break the bank with ODLH and then silence the critics by beating Tony. Then folks, we have a true mega fight for April of 2007 possibly for the undisputed welterweight championship of the world.

I still don't see why so many people thing Hatton is the one to beat Mayweather. I mean I'm a patriotic Brit but I just don't see it.

Everyone is going on about how Ricky will be able to close Mayweather down and outwork and out hustle him almost as if Mayweather doesn't have an alternative strategy than to allow himself to be bullied around the ring by Hatton.

I agree that it's a possibility, but it's every bit as likey that PBF will be just too fast and too slick for a brave Ricky Hatton who just gets picked off all night long until a sympathetice referee puts an end to the massacre late on.

Remember what Mayweather did the unbeaten Coralles

Well I hope the hatton fans see this so they can see who is ducking who. Its now obvious that hatton doubts his own skill a little. A lot of people on this site act as if hatton is great for the little he's accomplished in the past year but I don't. He's a good fighter but in my opinion he is not even in the top ten lb. 4 lb., but hes definitely in the top 20.Pbf wants to fight but he doesn't now I think he should have to wait and I also think he should fight margarito. Why? because I'm tired of seeing him in easy fights. If things were to go as some people hope hattons last 3opponents by the time he meets pbf would be maussa,collazo,gatti/baldimor.If this was PBF last 3 opponents he would get hell from everyone saying that hes ducking this guy and dodging that guy but it ok for hatton.Hatton should fight margarto and if he wins then I would say hes worthy of a shot because the trurh is neither hatton or margarito has earned a shot if you reall think about it.
Step up so I can put you down

Sounds like Hatton needs a few tune up fights in the U.S. and build up his American fan base. Hatton vs. Margarito would be a great elimination fight, and the winner fighting Floyd would be awesome.

Floyd won't get a chance to fight Oscar de la Hoya because, Oscar knows he will lose badly by decision, just like he did against Mosley, twice...

If Floyd lets Hatton fight Margarito before he does, that really shows how much he's ducking him.
