Oscar fighting in 2007!
By Karl Freitag
Six division world champion and current WBC super welterweight king Oscar De La Hoya has made a decision. "Oscar will be fighting next year," Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker Eric Gomez told Fightnews.com. "He's zeroed in on two opponents. One possible opponent is Felix Trinidad, who has been training apparently. He's down in weight and apparently he wants an opportunity to fight Oscar again, or give Oscar the opportuinity for revenge. Then you have Floyd Mayweather, who Oscar wants to fight because he's considered the number one pound-for-pound fighter. But obviously with Floyd Mayweather we're going to have to wait until after November. But Oscar has zeroed in on those two and he has assured us he will be fighting come May 2007.
And that's going to be it?
"And that's it. He said 'that'll be it.'"
How about Bernard Hopkins? Is he going to stay retired?
"I don't know. He still goes to the gym believe it or not. He's still working out and stays in shape. I really don't know. I respect the fact that he's retired. I believe that he was sincere when he said it, but whether he's going to come back or not, I don't know."
