Mesi Wins in Manistee!
Buffalo heavy has tough scrap in "final four rounder."
Comebacking Buffalo heavyweight “Baby” Joe Mesi scored a unanimous four-round decision in the main event of a night of professional boxing at the Little River Casino Resort in Manistee, Michigan, Friday night. Mesi (33-0, 26 KOs) had a surprisingly tough time getting by Keego Harbor, MI’s Jason Weiss, who despite being a comparative novice (now 3-2, 2 KOs), lumped up Mesi’s eye and kept it interesting throughout. Mesi won by scores of 40-36 from all three judges. In other action, Detroit lightweight Vernon Paris (now 6-0, 4 KOs) demonstrated his remarkable recovery from being shot three times this past July by winning a unanimous six-round decision over Florida’s Jean Petit Homme. Despite being spit at, verbally assaulted and repeatedly fouled, undefeated Canadian Kara Ro (14-0, 7 KOs) won her women’s lightweight battle against Southfield, MI’s Kim Colbert (2-11-2, 2 KOs) via unanimous six-round decision. Adrian, MI, super welterweight Dan Wallace won his grudge match against Traverse City’s Chris Grays by majority six-round decision; Detroit cruiserweight Phillip Jewel dropped a unanimous four rounder to Buffalo’s Francisco Alvarez; Philadelphia middleweight Tyrone Brunson ran his remarkable string of first-round knockouts to 13 by stopping Battle Creek, MI’s Guy Packer in 2:24; and female lightweight Natalie Brown went the distance for the first time in her career while winning a unanimous decision over Livonia, MI’s formerly undefeated Ingrid Hays.

Mesi I wish would just quit. Paris is a great story, very happy for him.
