Default Hall of Fame or the best that wont make it.

Borderline Hall of Famers who deserves to make it and who won't

    1. Ike Quartey
    2. Vernon Forrest
    3. Ricardo Mayorga
    4. Fernando Vargas
    5. William Joppy
Due any of these former champions deserve to make the hall of fame or not, and are there other borderline hall of famers from this generation of boxing.

I agree with that list. Unless either of them can produce last minute career turn arounds then they deserve little.

Quartey has suffered at the hands of crap decisions though, doesnt help his case though...

That is true, Quartey has probably been robbed of the HOF at this point, but if he can beat Winky in their upcoming bout I think he is a shoe in, but I don't think he can beat Winky.

Can Ricky Hatton make it if he decides to hang it up soon like he has been hinting, he has the big win over Kosta but is that enough, he has an impressive record.

If he can beat Winky and make a couple of good wins off of it then he is in....I cant see Winky losing though..

    I don't think Joppy's even close.

As great a fighter as I think he is it might take JMM a while to get in, his best performance was a draw versus Pac. Other than that he's got wins like Gainer, Medina, Polo. And losses to Norwood and John, whether the John loss was justified or not. And he's 33 and his career doesn't really seem to have any momentum right now.

    1. Ike Quartey

    deserves it.

    2. Vernon Forrest

Doesn't deserve it. Beating Mosley and getting beaten badly by Mayorga doesn't marrit you. Actually Antonio Tarver would go in the hall of fame before Forrest and he doesn't deserve it either.

    3. Ricardo Mayorga

Loved watching him fight, and he's a "could have been" if he had beaten Spinks I would agree with you. But falling short against Oscar and Trinidad and Spinks are going to cost him, if you could get in on sheer personality then Mayorga would be a shoe-in.

    4. Fernando Vargas

Won't get in, the same reasons as Mayorga wouldn't.

    5. William Joppy

Anyone who wins a championship after what happened to them after Trinidad deserves a medal of honor(same for Mayorga) but he always seemed to call short when it came to those hall of fame matches.

All these are great champions but I don't think they will be let into the hall of fame, but fighters that have done less are in it, so you never know.

Although Calzaghe is my favourite boxer i don''t think he deserves it unless he steps up the competition for his last few fights

Thanks Ouma, I forgot all about JMM good call. The draw vs Pac was his claim to fame and most people thought Pac took the fight, but after getting knocked down 3 times in the first round I have to give him credit for answering the storm vs a brutal finisher. But I don't think he is a hall of famer.

Good breakdown, William looked like he never recovered despite regaining the title (Who did after a brutal Tito KO). His fights against Hopkins and Taylor were one sided but prior to the Tito fight people thought he was the best MW out of the bunch (Including Hopkins). He had something like 8 defenses and had a sleek style. I would have loved to see Fernando Vs Ricardo back in 2000 before Tito put his hands on either one, it would have probably been one of the most entertaining fights in boxing history.

Well Joppy had some skill. His problem was that he read the newspapers before the Tito fight and it cost him. I watched that fight the other day on my computer. And it llooked like Joppy could take away Tito's shots and was outboxing him very good, but then in the last seconds of the first round he dropped his hands and got dropped.. and I kept thinking.. WHY?!?!?! Joppy's own cockiness and stupidity that he could afford to drop his hands against Trinidad was just STUPID!!! That fight is maddening cause I watch it and I see someone who should outbox Trinidad and is..and then for no reason drops his hands. Watch that fight and try not to get mad at Joppy.

I think JC should make it, and if he gives us one more big fight he will be a shoe in.

I think that Fernando Vargas should make it. He has gone to war and produced great fights against the best fighters of his generation, so what if he came up a little short. He has been in more big fights than all those other guys and he is in the record books as the youngest JR middle weight champ of all times.
