Remember all those teeny weeny little things when you first started?
Those little hints and tips that seemed like not a lot, but helped immensely.
It can be anything! Quotes, tips, tricks, hints, things youve picked up along the way.
Heres our chance to put together a little collage, for all our new-to-boxing readers.
I know:
1)Skipping ropes should be, when standing in the middle of it with your one foot, both handles should come up to your armpit.
That is the general concensus although i like it a little shorter for faster swing.
2)"The hero and the coward both feel exactly the same fear, only the hero confronts his fear and turns it into fire"
Cus D'Amato once said that, and it helps a lot to remember. Remember this before you spar, everytime you have a fight. The adrenaline helps, use it, dont mistake it for a weakness.
3)Somebody once told me the lead hand is 80% offensive, 20% defensive. And the back hand is 20% offensive and 80%defensive. Not sure if you agree but it works for me.
4)Weights DONT slow you down, if done properly.
You wanna get big, strong and powerful? Squat, as heavy as you can to the ground.
Its a whole body exercise and many of the big names in the game said that if they could only ever do one exercise, this would be it.
5)1 pound of muscle burns 7 calories an hour when inactive.
1 pound of fat burns 3 calories an hour when inactive.
You wanna lose fat? Do some weights, it'll help.
6)When on the bag, work on speed. Dont worry how hard you can hit it, that will come. Work on your speed and technique the rest will come naturally.
Remember, its not the power behind a bullet that makes it hurt.
