Default Sam Peter...if not Maskaev then what???

I do feel for the guy, he's a good nice person and has worked hard to earn a shot at the WBC title however since the recent events here's what I think he should do.

These fighters are free to fight Sam Peter.

Sergei Lyakhovich, he's a former champ and a good hard fight. If he was able to KO Sergei it would mean a showdown with Briggs.

Lamon Brewster, he's coming back, he is tough but beatable and it would mean a lot to beat him

Chris Byrd, he's older, he's another slick boxer, and he's VERY difficult to KO. If Sam Peter was able to beat him then I would have a HUGE amount of respect for the leaps he has made in his skill.

John Ruiz, a VERY difficult fighter to beat and very game. It would mean a lot to beat him.

Calvin Brock, a young gun eager to get another title shot or big fight. Wlad had some trouble with him, if Peter was able to have an easier time then he would look REALLY good.

Tye Fields, he's a vet a very tall guy and pretty strong however he's not on the level of Briggs or the Klitschko's but being able to box well and KO a good boxer that's as big as him is a feat anytime it's done.

Good evaluation of fights. It's a shame that if he wanted to step it up, there really isn't much else out there. Here's my assessment:

Sergei will get KO'd again. Remember, he almost got KO'd in the Brewster fight, and Briggs was nearly passed out (wheezing) at the end of their fight, but still managed to knock him out. He only got into rankings by beating an overrated Dominic Guinn.

Brewster--this would be good to watch if Brewster is back to par. I seriously doubt it, though. Besides, after all of this time, Brewster should not return to Peter. Let him build up.

    Byrd--first he's a Cruiser, then a Heavy, then a Superfighter. WTF?

Ruiz--I would love to see this fight. Remember that Ibeabuchi KO'd Ruiz in a matter of seconds... If Ruiz loses, he should retire. If Peter loses, he will be relegated as a benchmark to the elite.

Brock--can probably outbox Peter. If Peter fights like he fought Toney, then Brock doesn't stand a chance.

Tye Fields Club fighter, slapping punches. He would get a Savarese like beating put on him.

    Good post!

THis is a good thread. The recent incarnation & improvement of Sam Peter...the one that beat Toney against all these fighters = results.

    Peter stops him.

Brewster's been away too long. Peter stops him in an exciting fight.

I don't know enough about Fields to make an assestment.

Byrd frustrates Peter...possibley wins on points...but I'd have to lean towards a TKO. Byrd seems spent.

Agreed...tuff ugly fight. Not sure of the outcome.

    Peter stops the travel agent.

Don't know enough about Fields to make a call on this one.

    Lyle. Good post.

Yup I like yer post Lyle, (even though I think you talk way too much about heavyweights), but Peter has re-energised a lot of intrest in the heavies, and well done too him. Where i think he goes from now is tune-up, Vitali klitschko (if he beats Maskeaev) then if he wins, the other Klitschko, if he is that good. The picture ain't so bad for Sam.

Some good ideas here, Lyle. I like the Chris Byrd match-up. That would be a real milestone for Peter if he could get by Byrd. With 24 Rounds of experience with Toney, I think he has absorbed allot of ring knowledge. Tye Fields is really just a big, blundering, 'boxer' with poor coordination and not much to write home about. Calvin Brock is also interesting, but Brock is a smart dude who's jumped into the business world after the Klitschko fight. Lyakhovich is there for the taking, and I think that would be a fight of interest, too.
I'd love to see him fight Oliver McCall. Although McCall is past his prime, he has a chin of granite and can really throw.
I think that it would be foolish for Brewster to take on a fight with Peter at this time. Brewster has to develop some fundamental defensive skills that aren't there. That would be a recipe for disaster for Brewster at this point in time.
I know you will probably laugh at this one, but I would love to see him fight Audley Harrison. I would love to see Audley get put down for 4 minute count. Great thread.

That would be a great fight for Peter or Lamon as a tune up... I would pay to see that KO!

This should be a non-issue. We should be talking about all these guys as vitalis options. Lyle doesn't feel for Peter, he's elated about this whole bull. See if vitali can still get past those guys. Peter doesn't have to be fighting nobody but Maskaev and that's it.

The only thing any of those names would be for Peter is a payday.....He is getting the shaft in this deal......

I know you're not suggesting that Evander beats Peter. I'm sorry but this older version of Holyfield with his semi brawling style will not last too long against Peter.
