Ever find out what exactly was wrong with him?

I searched now quite some time,but most sources say that he got a mysterious virus disease and lost
alot weight...only one source said that the weightloss could be because of his diet...I couldn't
find a decent translation but the german word for his diet is "makrobiotisch"...it's some kind of
hardcore vegetarianism...he is a bit better these days and became a organic farmer...
