    Default Ronald Winky Wright

Winky .................... wot can we say , he is a true road warrior but if you look at his record he truely has fought some top names.
He is old school with lots of fights and i think he has the best defence since SWEETPEA , wots amazing about Winky is he stands in punching range and is still so difficult to hit.
Ithink he was shafted by judges v Vargas and v Harry Simon , but i find it hard to see how a crude slugger like J C Vasquez floored Winky so many times , maybe just inexperience.
So to sum up i think Winky deserves to be regarded as a great fighter who could have held is own in any era , a style for the boxing purists , but he is a tremendous fighter. and a good guy also.
Enjoy him cos when hes gone we will miss him defensive master , fight anyone anywere , true champ ,
    Ronald Winky Wright.

I think he's the #2 P4P fighter in the world (Floyd's #1, of course). I'd rather watch Pacquiao, but I don't see how anyone can say Pac, with all his obvious flaws, is a better fighter than Winky is. I really don't see it.

And add the "draw" against Taylor to your list of bad decisions in Winky victories.

Wright’s one of my top five favorite fighters.

He falls in right between Hopkins & Mayweather jr.

Wright is a purists dream…by that I mean that he pretty much hits on all cylinders for those that love to watch the art of boxing. Wright is the personification of everything that I like in the sport.

Beautiful jab, good movement, controls the ring, & has one hell of a jab…all Wright lacks is power to stop the show in each hand…again…that’s not what all boxing fans desire though.

Anywho, he beat Vargas & Simon but did indeed get drubbed outta the ring by Vasquez…everyone has a bad night & believe it or not…he fought a stupid fight.

Wright should go down as one of the top talents of the decade & his record speaks for itself.

Humiliated Trinidad, owned Mosley, & jumped up to 160lbs worked it & then went on to give Taylor one of his tuffest fights to date.

Very curious to see what happens against Hops.

You don't have to like his style and it can be boring at times but he is that damn good ( I think I got that line from somewhere in the WWE LOL)....He has a great resume and can hang in any era...like Audley stated the Amazing part about Winky is he can remain in close and not get beat up...Thats top notch Defense...Anyone who questions it is either crazy or does not know what true boxing is....only flaw is that Winky came into his own late in the game...he wasn' always as good as he is and now I think age may start taking it's toll on him

However Wacko I would like to note that most boxing instructors don't teach guys to just hide behind that shell. THey usually want more upper body movement Winky uses when on defense. I don't think his defense is quite that of Mayweather's because his style gets him hit more, but his style allows him to fight quicker guys better than Mayweather's would. I think the reason Vazquez hurt him so many times is because Winky was too thin back then. He had no strength.

Winky has said during the Vasquez fight he was slipping all over the place...
Winky is weird in the sense that he stands so wide and flat footed but he hasnt been KO'd.He is still one of my top 3 favs along with Roy Jones and Mayweather.

I hear ya...but if every fighter followed all the instructions then there'd be very little uniqueness among fighters.

Wright's defense developed quite supremely over the last 5 years & now he's gone back to trying to please the fans & hence getting hit a bit more.

It was'nt a hometown decision it was a close fight !!! Even alot of the hacks at ringside had Simon losing .

Besides Harry Simon is Namibian not South African and his last 5 fights were in England before that and most after were abroad.

I like fair judges nothing else and I think Simon beat him by far larger distance than for example Spinks beat Karmazin (talking about hometown decisions ).

Winky is one for the purists, and he is quite unique in his style. Defensive wizard, great work rate and a fighters heart. The man.
Remember the good old days, we miss you Marco!
