    Default On Cotto's body punching

Is he the most devastating and most dedicated body puncher of our era? How does he rank against other well known body punchers?

I live very near Carlos Quintana's home town and I have heard from neighbors that he is still pissing blood and he had to postpone his next fight because he had not fully recovered yet. (Don't know how true this statement is but it is what I heard)

On another note. Has he gotten away with illegal kidney shots? This foul has not been called by refs in a long time as far as I can remember. What are your thoughts on this.

He is arguably the best body puncher of our era other good body punchers were Micky Ward and Julio Cesar Chavez but he would be top 3 easily.

He goes to the body very well.
He has hit some of his opponents with illegal shots. I don't know and I can't say if they are intentional or it's the momentum and timing. There have been occassions where fighters have turned their backs on him and they have paid the price. I don't think he is a dirty fighter but he sure does know where to land those shots. Chavez was a great body puncher. Hatton is another great body puncher. Pavlik is another strange body puncher. I was just going over some of my Margarito fights and when I noticed Tony and Kelly have similar styles. I think Kelly might be a bit more accurate with his punches maybe because of his reach but they both throw those body punches from down under and in odd angles. Funny how I never noticed the slight similarities in style until I watched the (payed attention to the Sartuchi and Miranda fights he just had.

I hope Cotto does hit Judah with a couple of kidney shots. That will be pay back for hitting Floyd low and then hitting him in the back of the head.

BTW. I posted the photos of Quintanas back a while back.
    Here they are:

If Mayweather can get away with shoving his elbo into his opponents neck, I don't see why Cotto can't get away with a few kidney shots

He gets away with a lot to the kidneys and he broke Torres' will by firing in low blows which the ref didnt seem to spot. The ones that land legally are awesome.

He's up there with Castillo, Hatton etc...

Some of the shots he hit Torres with were a bit low yes and then Torres' corner tells him to cause a scene if he get's hit anywhere near the waistline. They told him to fake it but Torres took forever to take a knee and the ref gave Torres a standing 8. That has to be one of my favorite Cotto fights.

He goes to the body very well in the early rounds, and when his opponent is hurt. And Judah is definitely going to be hit with some shots to the back imo. When you get a fighter squared up to one, and the other guy isn't square and you hook like Cotto does, you're going to hit somebody in the back. Those pictures are frightening honestly, that's serious power.

Cotto broke a guys collarbone. That wasn't a kidney shot. He hit him on the arms and broke his collarbone. That's power.

He's got to be the best at the moment.
