Sad to hear that, I just googled him and they say he has Hodgkins disease. I was diagnosed with it at 24 years old myself. I'm 33 now and have been on disability for 9 years. The chemotherepy treatment they gave me tore through my lungs and now they stick together so I can't walk without getting breathless.

Good luck to him, I hope they got to it quickly it would be tragic to see him end his boxing career before it's even really begun.

Thank you for posting this video. I was watching his brother's fight and they mentioned this so I tried to look up information on it and couldn't find anything. I wish him the best and hope he pulls through ok. I couldn't imagine the thoughts going through his head when he was diagnosed.

back. Damn man thats rough. He must have a hard time accepting it being that he was just getting in the limelight. Hopefully he comes back stronger after going through all of this. What is the chance of a 100% recovery from it?

If caught early and no complications then there's a 90% survival chance. However if the first dose of chemo doesn't cure him completely then the survival chances drop slightly.

I had 30 sessions of radiotherepy initially which didn't cure it, then 6 months of chemo which also didn't cure it. I then had another month of radiotherepy, 3 doses of high dose chemotherepy and finally a bone marrow transplant.

Hopefully they will cure him with the first dose of treatment. If they do he will probably be able to mount a comeback not too affected, just like Lance Armstrong.

If it spreads and he has complications like I did his only fight will be to survive, his career will be over.

But I was told that the complications that arose in my case less than 25% of patients experience and less than half of them survive.

But the one good thing about Hodgkins is its the most responsive cancer to treatment. Even when ravaged with tumours in my neck, chest and back they were still able to completely cure me, something I don't think they can do with any other form of cancer.

Wow, thanks for the info, crazy how this kind of thing can strike all of a sudden, especially people who are otherwise healthy. Sounds like the odds are in his favor if he is responsive to treatment. Happy you beat it and guys like Armstrong and Jon Lester pulled though it shows that it can be done. Just a sh@tty roadblock though..

    Nice post BoomBoom.

My mom met the Dirrel's along with Andre a while back. They were all nice people, and my mom had a photo to take with her. I hope he pulls through, hopefully able to go back into the ring again.

Yeah, he was the one I actually liked. They talked of this during his brother fight last week. Anthony was ringside.

Curtis "Showtime" Stevens let me down.

    Dan,
Im not sure how I found it to be completely honest. There might have been a link from the Boxrec hompeage, but i really dont remember. That was a nice piece on Andre also. You fellas do nice work keep it up, and if you speak with Anthony tell him Saddoboxing wishes him the best and to get well soon.

    Same bro same

Gotta love curtis .. But it seems he will always be one of those guys who has to pick his fights.. I know he can stil mix it in the bigtime but only with certain styled fighters.. He'll always have trouble with a good boxer..

Which sucks cos Curtis has shown speed and great work.. But hes just to willing to wait for that one big punch when hes not having any luck
