Default A message for everyone on this forum, whats happened to boxing fans???

    Prepare to do some reading.

You know I was scrolling the forum and I was in the Mundine thread and there does he stand and I was looking at the posts there and quite frankly I was shocked at both sides of what I was seeing, those for and against Mundine or what not and people taking credit or giving to much and double standarding and all this other stuff and I just decided to make this post speaking out to every boxing fan in this forum. And this isn't going to solely be about Mundine it will be about boxing fans in general.

First lets get to the taking credit away double standard

As the fans say when defending their favorite fighters it isnt who they fought and beat its how they beat them, and nobody has ever dominated Soliman ever in his careeer like Mundine did and no one had stopped Soliman prior, and it wasnt questionable. I was amazed by that performance

How is Soliman all of a sudden a blown up middleweight? He started his career at light heavyweight and went up and down between the three weight classes of middleweight super middleweight and light heavyweight he spent a majority of his time at middleweight though but he is by no means blown up in my opinion. That shouldn't take away from his ability or his accomplishments at all. And shouldn't take away the credit mundine should get from beating him.

Blown up fighters like Sakio Bika who is really a middleweight gave Joe Calzaghe a frustrating night and some people actually thought he could pull the upset over Lucian Bute and nobody said anything about Bika being a blown up Middleweight who had also never been stopped.

Evans Ashira another blown up middleweight that Calzaghe has gotten credit for beating with a broken hand. No one takes any credit from Calzaghe for that fight at all and good because he won it with a broken hand, but Ashira was a blown up middleweight too wasn't he?

70 percent of Jermain Taylor's resume is made up over blown up 154 pounders and the last ones he's fought gave him loads of trouble! And yet people(some people) were clamoring for Calzaghe to fight him are you kidding me?

People give Jermain the excuse for struggling with blown up opposition with the styles make fights and etc etc, but as soon as someone like Mundine dominates a lower weight opposition it is "They were just blown up fighters" I don't understand it.

It seems like people only use that blown up rule when they want to take credit from another fighter they don't want to give full credit to and that's not a diss, it's just what I'm seeing.

I see it way too often in the boxing world.

People say a fighter they don't like is gonna get beat and then after they win they use every way to downgrade their opponent.

Even Floyd Mayweather, the same fans that said that he would get knocked out by Oscar De La Hoya(some of them not all) after the fight were saying Oscar was old and past his best and everything else!

There should be a rule among boxing fans, If you pick someone to beat another fighter IF that other fighter wins please don't come back and downgrade the guy you picked just because you don't want to give credit. If he was shot, past it etc, in your mind then you wouldn't have picked him in the first place and if you knew all of it and you still picked him, don't say anything other then you were wrong, why can't people just admit that nowadays?

Now if you notice this entire post isn't pro or anti mundine or mostly even about Mundine at all, its about boxing fans in general.

But the attitudes I'm seeing on BOTH sides of the arguement of who beat who and where they rank and likes and dislikes needs a revamping.

We are supporting who we want and the fighters we like because we are fans of boxing.

Our honor or our shame doesn't rest on the outcome of a boxing match but in the way we live our own lives. Boxing is what we watch, and for some of us what we do, but it is NOT who we are.

And too much time is wasted nowadays trying to prove something either way, since when did supporting our favorite boxers turn into something that was all about us and turn into "I'm right you're wrong we're the best you suck, you're unpatriotic because you like this guy, you're racist because you always pick a black fighter or vice versa, you don't know boxing if you pick this person, you're a piece of shit!" when the hell did it turn into all of that?

I know this won't reach a lot of people, but I only hope it can, but as boxing fans we need to start acting like it. Instead of acting like its our honor we're defending instead of a boxers.

Also know I'm not ragging on anyone or trying to take credit, I'm just using examples of the standards and how I'm seeing most boxing fans react, thats all.

    Thanks for reading.

Your are right in your logic..

Boxing fans are far too critical..

    But i defy your logic..

You cannot say that Mundine did it all fair and then say that Jermain has spent his last few fights fighting blown up middles..Thats bs

Nobody can tell me that Winky wright is a blown up 154.. He is a full middleweight and he is strong at the weight .. I fhe were not maybe jermain could have had an easyer night..

Jermain might not impress but hes got the nuts to take real fighters.. Kassim was supposed to be his fight off and kassim is tough as nails unquestionably..

wITH A run like jermains he deserved a night off..But kassim is no sort of night off

And when it comes to spinks.. It doesnt matter what weight it is..The dude is trouble.. Slick as they come. Not like he lost all this power in coming up to middleweight .. he was never a concussive puncher.. You just know that he is an axcellent boxer and wil cause you all sort of frustration..

And tbf.. When everyone was saying..Well spinks cant hurt jermain..It works both ways.. Spinks doesnt loose no speed..And jermain isnt the fastesst cat.. So its a true challenege in my books

I didn't Re-read my post. I was saying its unfair for people to say that mundine didn't do it all fair and then give Jermain Taylor an excuse. Thats what I was basically saying, I wasn't trying to take credit from Jermain, I was saying that its unfair for you to do it for one fighter and then not another. I was attacking the fact that one fighter is critisized while another wasn't

In the time I have been visiting here and the very short time I have been posting. That seems to be a common problem. There are always excuses for something. Or someones performance is dis credited. It has nothing to do with here though. I think there was some other topic I posted in where I had mentioned about fans being on the bandwagon.
I am a firm believer that some fans will not be happy with anything a fighter or athlete in general does. Sam Soiman is a credible opponent. He gives anyone a hard time. He might not be the best out there but he is not overrated. He is not a second rate fighter. He certainly not a blown up middleweight.
Mudain deserves his due. He worked hard for his win. Like I said though. You can not please everyone. I chalk it up as fans wanting so much more from their favorites and the fact they are not performing how they should it leaves them no other choice but to critcize everyone else to make them look better.

In sports in general,I try to avoid fan logic
There is one current boxer Im a legitimate fan of,and I hope desperatly he retires after his next fight
Im a huge Dolphins fan, guess what,Joey Harrington stunk on ice last year
Im a huge Yankees fan, gues what, our pitching stinks this year
Its possible to be a fan without losing analytical ability

Well you aren't going to get much quality posting when someone is calling you a racist and is insulting you just because you disagree about there fighter.

And this forum as some of the most unbiased boxing fans i've personally seen sadly you always get couple of these fan boys in here when you can't say one thing negative about there fighter.

CC from me. Nice post. I don't see the thread as being a mundine thread but is about recent thread(s) that included him. I like the points you make and agree that:

"There should be a rule among boxing fans, If you pick someone to beat another fighter IF that other fighter wins please don't come back and downgrade the guy you picked just because you don't want to give credit. If he was shot, past it etc, in your mind then you wouldn't have picked him in the first place and if you knew all of it and you still picked him, don't say anything other then you were wrong, why can't people just admit that nowadays?"

And after all a fight is a fight. Unless you get a first punch knock out (i remember good 'ol Jimmy Thunder) any pro fight is hard work and anyone who stepps in there should be given at least some respect for trying IMO.

“If you even dream of beating me you'd better wake up and apologize.” Muhammad Ali.

Great thread. This is what I come to the forum to get. Piercing insight, clarity on opinions (my own and others), a perspective I didn't have when I got here. You get the super CCCCCCCCCCCCCCC for this thread.

I will admit when I am wrong, but there are also times when the 'blown up' theory should really be employed (a la JTaylor)--not as revisionist history.
