Default Quartey looking to return to 147

I have my doubts if Ike can get that low in weight. But if he can, I think he can make serious noise. Ike may be 37, but he's never really token a beating and he rested a good 5 years. Ike showed in his fight against Wright that he clearly has some life in him. If he makes welterweight, I would favor him over Cintron, Margarito, Judah, Baldomir and Clottey. Mayweather and Mosley would be to quick for him. Cotto and Williams a little to busy for him. Should be interesting.

Quartey was a very very good welterweight in his day (I thought he clearly beat De La Hoya and got robbed), but I'm not sure how dangerous he is nowadays. He could certainly be Top 10, but I don't think he could beat the top guys at this point.
He could do some legit damage at 154 right now though, where there are very few quality fighters.

I always liked Quartey, the guy is as tough as nails, and could give anyone problems in his prime. Even now if he could make the weight he could definitely stir the pot a bit and maybe ruin some plans for a few of the top guys. He looked pretty good against Forrest and Wright so I don't see why he won't give some of these guys a run for their money. Thanks for the link.

Good for Quartey. He could beat some top guys at 147, and give the absolute best a run for their money. He's tough, has a great jab, and overall is just a good boxer with a ton of heart.

At this point in his career, if he can make the weight without weakening himself, he just may be a name opponent on someones resume. But battles like Quartey-Cintron and Quartey-Mosley sound fun.

Maybe not now but in his prime Ike would have smashed Margarito.
I'd like to see quartey v Clottey. A battle of two good fighters from Ghana.

I'm waiting to hear that Sugar Ray is makin a return to WW.

Seriously though, good for Quartey. He wants to go get some of that $$$, I'm not hatin on Bazooka. Alot's happenin in the WW division right now. And IMO the more quality/proven guys the merrier. It will work itself out in due time.

The Bazooka from the late 90's would beat Maragrito for sure...At this stage though I have to go with Tony

The Cintron fight would be fantastic.

Ike could outbox and hurt Cintron.

However, If Ike gets in the way of Cintron's bombs, he's going down like a cheap hooker.

I'm guessing he had the choice of going to 154 which is devoid of any real big match us but where he could have been more successful or go back to 147,where there are way more $$$ to be made but much tougher competition. I don't think he can beat any of the top guys at 147 but definitely a solid top 10 contender.

If Quartey can make 147 without taking to much outta himself I think he'll fit into the mix at ww nicely. With his name recognition theres big fights available, his style also makes for some exciting clashes. With Mayorga talking of also returning to 147 after the Vargas fight the division keeps getting better by the minute!

Thats right Mayorga is talkin of comin back down too. I hope he can make the weight because that is the absolute best weight for him, he's a beast at 147.
