Default Roy Jones "Floyd needs to fight Prime fighters"

Roy Jones answered back to the reports that Floyd Mayweather the current p4p number 1 said when Jones reigned as P4P number 1 he fought police officers and bums, Jones response was not civil " You have to understand that i won 4 titles in 4 different weight classes beat Bernard Hopkins one of the greatest middleweights of all time, Beat James Toney who everyone said was the pound for pound best and would whip me, cleaned out the Light heavyweight divison then went up and whipped John Ruiz, So i fought them in there prime all Floyd did was whip inactive, Past it Oscar so i say to Floyd go and fight some live bodies!!"

    Ha owned!

I love Roy Jones, I got goosebumps when he came in against Hanshaw dressed as a gladiator.

Mayweather and Katsidis did it and looked fucking ridiculous but Jones is the man

Roy Jones says he fought guys in their primes... and then uses John Ruiz as an example? LMAO.

    Ruiz had a prime?

I think Jones' p4p reign was more dominant & he was way more exciting to watch even when he was with overmatched opponents.

Funny how he says 'inactive, Past it Oscar' yet somehow forgets to mention 'fat @ss, weight drained Toney,' or 'green as grass Hopkins.' As far as I'm concerned, the only above average fighter who also happened to be at his best when Roy fought him was Tarver, and I think we all know how that trilogy ended up.

When are Toney and others going to stop using the "weight drained" excuse for how badly Roy outclassed Toney?! James got schooled...PERIOD. And sure...Hopkins was not at his peak...but a "green" Hopkins is still better than 99% of Floyd's opponents. Not saying Roy fought all the best fighters...but the man was one of the very few non heavyweights in the last decade to create real buzz for boxing.

Weight drained Toney? Toney was the middleweight champion when Jones started challenging him, Toney moved up to fight Barkley because he didn't want to fight Jones. The weight favored Toney more than Jones. Toney was also the p4p king then.

Hopkins had more pro fights than Jones when they fought. Hopkins had 23 fights, Jones had 21.

Sorry to have to break this to you, but Toney was NEVER THE P4P king. That title belonged to Pernell Whitaker off of his schooling of JCC. And also, Tony came into the fight with Roy weighing 186, 18 LBS OVER 168. That, my friend, is called being weight drained. And who gives a sh!t how many fights Hopkins had. He was not at his prime. Bernard, like Lennox, is one of the few fighters who never reached their apex until after their mid 30s. This is not disputed by anyone.

I think the RJJ-Toney answer is somewhere in the middle.

Toney was struggling at the weight and had to stay busy to help keep the weight down. Half of his previous 10 fights were above 170 and he fought at 181 lbs just a few months before the RJJ loss. He was having trouble.

BUT, Jones was masterful that night and a fully fit, non weight struggling Toney wouldn't have had a chance. Didn't matter what weight, where or anything else. Jones had Toney's number that night.

I always felt Roy could have done more though. I know he was scarred by the Korea decable but he should have gone over to Europe to fight Mikael, Michalsz, Michelswk, Michazsk, that Polish fella.

I'm never drinking again (I am a liar)

I stand corrected James Toney was #2 on the p4p list at Ring Magazine(made me look) and you were right. Jones was a 6-5 favorite going in(Ring 1995). also in The Ring march 1995 Toney blamed Jones' dominance on a flu bug he had and made no mention of weight.

I agree that Ruiz is a waste of gloves, but the fact that I light heavy weight moved up to heavy weight and whipped his a**, was amazing to watch.

Toney did have trouble with making weight for that fight (he's had trouble his whole career), but that's no excuse. Roy would've beaten him decisively no matter what the weight. Roy dominated him from the opening bell.

    bernard not prime...yeah right...

if roy doesn't get credit for beating him, toney or anyone else...then bhop doesn't get credit for beatin weight drained tarver, or the blown up WWs tito and oscar

or hatton get credit for beating old KT

or PBF for beating castillo corrales because they weren't good until they fought each other

or winky for beating blown up shane mosley

or mosely for beating unmotivated oscar

or tito for beating the green vargas

or cotto for beating too dumb judah

or griffith for beating toney twice at his new weight after roy beat him since he was weight drained when he fought roy

oh my the list could go on forever...so many excuses not the give props when the guy that's being talked about isn't someone you personally don't like
