Thread: Who is the higher ATG RJJ or Bernard Hopkins?

What do you think guys?

If you looked at both guys on paper, you would probably have to go with Hopkins, but i think the majority of people would say RJJ beats Hopkins prime for prime everytime, i suppose its how people interpret the all time list, it s a real tough one for me, but over the last four years RJJ hasnt done a whole lot to add to his legacy while Nard just keeps on improving, now if Hopkins beats say Calzaghe or even goes up to fight one of the Heavyweight Champs there is no doubt he is higher.

IMO id put Hopkins between 20-30 and RJJ 25-35.

Jones, because while he's been KO'ed, on his day, he was untouchable. Hopkins is like a reliable old car that lasts all your life and has always given you value for money, Jones was a porsche that eventually went too fast and ended up crashing into someone and got written off.

I'd have Jones in top 15 and B-Hop about 30th

If you look at both guys on paper you see Roy beat Hopkins. That's all that should matter.

you could also say that if you look at both guys skills in the ring you see Roy beating Hopkins(and Roy did beat hopkins as we all know) , maybe that is all that should matter. Roy looked like superman and in his prime and none of his fights were even close.

Roy Jones by a mile for me....

Roy Jones was the daddy in 3 devisions without question, and whislt he wasn't the best heavyweight, it was still a great feat for a former middleweight to take the WBA belt...

Whislt hopkins did dominate the middleweight for along time, he never inheritited it from jones after jones beat him and reliquished the belt when he moved up.... Now sure jones never beat the champ who was toney atmiddle weight, but he chased him up to SMW and beat him there...

jones was the best at Middle, SMW, and LH for long periods of time without question... Sure hopkins beat tarver, good win.. but he has yet to defend his belt agasint anyone of the true LHW... the guy out there who hold belts, and are hungry for glory... So whislt people may consider Nard as the best LHW, he is unproven unlike jones...

Also, in his day i think hopkins would not of been abletolive with jones, i don't think hopkins could of beaten toney either...

Excellent analogy by Kel says it all. Roy Jones was the greatest fighter I have ever seen, completely unbeatable at his peak. A friend of mine who had lost interest in boxing asked me if Roy had lost yet, this was during his prime, and I said to him, "he has not even lost a round yet". Another time I showed another mate Roy knocking out Pazienza and he could not believe his speed and accuracy. He wanted to see the KO in slow motion because he could not believe the punch combination. He will always be higher.

If ROy had retired after he beat Ruiz, this wouldn't even be up for debate IMO... it's ashame he carried on;?

yeah he'd be number 1 all time..but if he can some how suck it up and win a major world title right now that would do numbers for his place in history..say he fights and beats chad dawson, or maybe the winner of calzaghe kessler....that will sway a lot of nay sayers about his overall persona...that's on a wide scale

imo he became the GOAT after he beat ruiz, and cemented it after the first tarver fight...so i really could care less what happened after that...

Roy did beat B-Hop for the IBF Middleweight.

For me it's Roy! He dominated throughout the 90's and he dominated at 3 different weight divisions.

But CC on the topic! It is a close one without doubt. They have both done so much for boxing.

Yeah comparing their actual ring abilities shouldn't even be brought up.
