Thread: Boxing: De La Hoya throws hat into Hatton's corner

The 34-year-old De La Hoya, whose "Golden Boy" features remain unblemished after 43 fights, the last a split-decision loss to Mayweather, is even suggesting that he and a victorious Hatton will get together in the ring at Wembley Stadium next spring. He says: "Put me against a wall and ask me who I think will win, I'll pick Ricky Hatton.

I would love to see it happen and it still might happen even if the Fatboy loses to Mayweather.
One loss won't hurt Ricky's carreer opportunities.

If Oscar didn't feel Mayweather's punches then he would have kept on jabbing, and he wouldn't have backed off when Mayweather started throwing back off the ropes. Oscar has way better defensive skills than Hatton, and he is far faster reflexes and handspeed. The only thing I think that Hatton has that Oscar didn't was really good foot speed and better technique at least when it comes to pressuring. Hatton also really lacks power which will make it a lot easier for Mayweather than his fight with Oscar.

Oscar's defense was effective, but it wasn't as effective as Floyd's.

Hatton will be the money spinner thats why - and will Floyd fight again if he wins .....?

Was in Canada recently and had a few boxing chats with locals - was amazed at how much they love Hatton out there. But not amazed at how much they hate Floyd.

Guess there are a lot of americans who would love to see Floyd KTFO - a bit like we had Brits who hated Hamed

Whats the record for worldwide ppv sales and which fight - anyone know ?

He did lose, by one round, but his defence had nothing to do with it. It was his lack of offence late in the fight. Where did anyone say he won?

Lack of offence late in a fight = lack of conditioning, hence, you're opponent is better conditioned than you, thus, you will lose. If they fought 10 times Floyd would win all 10. Floyd can't hurt Oscar, but people need to see Oscar can't hurt Floyd either. When your fighting someone who can't hurt you whom you're also better conditioned than, you're better than him. The fact Oscar was able to remain competitive is just a testament to his skill.

CC,he picked off ALOT of Mayweather's shots earlier on. And I guarantee that Oscar will fight Hatton,whether Hatton win's loses or draws. There is are limited oppertunities for Oscar at WW.

Limited opportunites? Oscar is the biggest marquee name in boxing, if he chooses to fight on he can take his pick of opponents, Cotto, Mosely, Mayweather, Williams, Cintron, Forrest, Winky, Ouma, Spinks, Hatton, Judah, Margarito etc would all fall over themselves to make that fight.

Oscar always had a bit of a stamina problem, although it may have been as much mental and strategic as it was physical. For example in the mayweather fight DLH started off fast, thre a lot early and just didn have enough to finish strong, nearly all of oscars fights that went the distance played out to a similar script. He jus uses up too much energy too early.
This is a sharp contrast to mayweather who seems to always leave his best work for the l;ast four and steals whtever early rounds he can
