Default Felix Sturm : WE HAVE TO HAVE A REMATCH!!

Both sides are talking rematch after the entertaining and dramatic twelve round draw between WBA middleweight champion Felix Sturm and mandatory challenger Randy Griffin. Here's what they had to say at the post fight press conference...

Felix Sturm: That was a great fight from both of us. We gave everything and showed our technical skills. I have seen myself with two rounds ahead on the scorecards as I had the clearer and better punches. This was a thrillig and emotional fight. We have to have a rematch. That would be very important for the boxing business. I'm ready for a rematch wherever it can be realized. Randy deserves it, he is a great boxer.

Randy Griffin: It was a great fight and I'm not disappointed, although I thought I had won. I would really like to come back for a rematch to Germany.

Sturm's Promoter Klaus-Peter Kohl: I haven't seen such a dramatic fight in a long time, it was great. I'm happy about the ending although it was a draw. Felix is still the champion. The last two rounds were the best ones I have ever seen of him. There are fights when the call for a rematch is very high. This is a case here.

Sturm's trainer Michael Timm: What a fight! We had to wait until the final bell. An incredible performace of Felix, the way he came back in the last rounds.

Glad to hear that Sturm wants to have the rematch.

.....I was surprised he fought to a draw with someone....it doesn't look like he's as good as Oscar made him look

Well basically he won that Oscar fight with just the jab. He was/is a good strong, European Middlweight with a great jab, but not much power in his right hand or left hook from what I can tell. Plus he did get TKO'd by an old Javier Castillejo not too long ago. I wish Sturm would fight somebody I've heard of though, I'm sure this Griffin is a good boxer, but I would rather have him fight Arthur Abraham or Edison Miranda.

Hulk get mad!!!! Hulk get strong!!!!

Heh heh heh. Seriously though...coming from a Sturm fan...I'd like to state that that was a good assestment.

Sturm is a great boxer with a fantastic jab. He has a good defense & a great ring ethic. The problem with Sturm is just what you said...he doesn't have a vast amount of power. He does have power though...evidenced by the knockouts that he has pulled out of his ass.

Honestly...& this aint an excuse...I think that he's still having issues with the fact that he got stopped by Javier.

If you watch his bouts after that, he's still got a shell shocked look about him when the other fighter comes on. He get's stuck behind his guard & gives the other fighter confidence.

I still believe in & love to watch Sturm box...I just don't want to see him fall under the glove again.

Not sure what it is about him...but I've just become stuck on him. He's got the goods...he just needs to believe in himself & apply them.

He doesn't fight often, he doesn't fight good fighters and yet he's still relevant in a division as deep as middleweight

I will go on record as saying JOHN DUDDY WOULD BEAT FELIX STURM

    Maybe...but I doubt it.

    Doesn't fight enough?!?!

Lyle...seriously...check your facts before you speak.

How many times a year does Wlad fight? For that matter...how many times do most contenders on a championship level fight?

Not 3 to 5 times a year. Maybe about nine or ten years ago he maxed out his card...but not in the last 4 or 5 years has he fought more than twice...I might be mistaken, like you...because he aint my favorite, but I don't think so.

He's had a few things going on in the last year or two Lyle...I think that you might can give him 2006 & 2007.

Now...the funny thing is...Wlad's got something like 3 times on his record now...knockout losses...& I don't see you bailing out on him...you generally RABIDLY defend him...kind of like I am doing with Sturm now.

    Get the point?

You should give the man a bit of lee-way...or don't...but know that it's not a great feeling when everyone crusify's your man.

Being beside wacko the only Sturm fan here I still won't sugarcoat his performance against
Griffin...its not like he did bad...he boxed well enough...good counterpunches, good uppercuts
and an excellent jab...BUT he didn't move well instead of using the ring he stood infront of
Griffin hiding behind his defense...he should have thrown more punches and moved more around...
Griffin was game, didn't tire and apparently did enough to get a draw(even though I had Sturm
    winning by a close decision)...
If Sturm had more power he might have scored a ko or a kd at least, cause he hit with the more
accurate punches, but on the other hand did Griffin come through with quite some punches of
his own and if he would have a bigger punch it might have been Sturm, who would have gone
    down...

Right now I have to say if he would have fought Taylor,Pavlik or Abraham that way I'm pretty
sure he would have been ko'ed...

But every boxer has a bad day sometimes...Sturms next performances will tell...
Till then me and wacko will stay fans...

Having not seen the bout yet...I can't really comment on anything other than my devotion as a fan & defend him on his prior bouts & accomplishments.

Those previous wins weren't gimmee's...he won them & that's that.

Wlad has a reason he doesn't fight a lot .....HBO couldn't afford it this year...he typically fights at least twice a year

True Wlad has lost 3 times....but he has stepped up and won since then and he's stood in versus tougher competition than Sturm has fought against AND he has never really even come close to drawing in any fight.

Sturm has had the oppertunities to step up but hasn't taken them, I'm not saying he will never step up but he's 28 and needs to hurry up and get something done in the division.....hell he could fight any number of good Europeans: Asikainen, Sylvester, Abraham, and Duddy or if he so chooses to fight Americans there are a bunch of them to fight as well: Spinks, Mora, Hearns, Quillan, and Greene.

Wacko, I want Sturm to do well and all but drawing with Griffin wasn't the best sign that he's going to be a world beater

While I commend him for offering a rematch, I can't help feeling he should be moving on from this. Felix is a decent Middleweight fighter. He's young and possesses great skill, but I think he should be beating the Randy Griffins of this world.

Sturm said that a rematch was for the fans, but I'd be much happier seeing him move on from this and take a different fighter before looking at unification with Abraham.

It's become pretty obvious that Strum is pretty overrated. It's hard to give Strum credit for beating Castillejo in the rematch cuz he should of never should of lost to Castillejo in the first place. And he should never been held to a draw by Griffin. No wonder Strum turned down the Taylor fight a couple of years ago. He would of got knocked out. And he knows it. Strum seems contend to stay in Europe defending against average (at best) opposition.

I like Sturm, but I have to agree with this post.

He doesn't appear very big at 160, maybe a move down to 154 what give him back some of that pop he used to have./ He used to sting guys with his shots, Castillejo and Griffin have looked much stronger than Sturm and he's struggled to keep them off him.

I can't see him doing that though, he's won 3 world titles at 160. In his mind he'll be thinking he's capable at 160. The problem is that guys like Pavlik, Taylor & Abraham are monsters at this weight.

Sturm blew his chance in Germany. He's now lost 2 (to Castelljo and De La Hoya) and drew with Griffin. He's no longer a top contender
