Default Your thoughts/opinions are greatly appreciated.

I was thinking the other night of how many fighters go unnoticed and or are not talked about. I started thinking about this the other night when I watched several fights of fighters who I felt deserved to be talked about and or mentioned and we as fans rarely or never mention such fighters.
I'm gonna list some names and if you have ANYTHING (Tho I hope it's positive things as this thread to try and glorify fighters who we might not get to praise on a regular basis) to say about them or a fight that you saw or something you read or and would like to share it I would really appreciate it. I just want to know what other posters here think about certain fighters. Since we we almost always talk about Ali, Tyson, ODLH, Lewis etc. etc. etc.

So heres some names and if you want to comment on just 1 or 3 or all of them then do as you please. Theirs no right or wrong answer here this is just for us to mention fighters who would on the norm not get a mention in our everyday discussions.

    Johnny Owen
    Alvaro 'Yaqui' Lopez
    Greg Page
    Carlos De Leon
    Bob Foster
    Fritzie Zivic

I think those are the only ones I've heard of. I'm not a long time fan of boxing though, I've only gotten really into it in the past few years...

Good post. It's difficult at times to understand why some fighters are revered and others almost forgotten. Never saw Foster, but from what I have read and been told he was brilliant. Did see Pedroza against McGuigan, and he looked great for the first part of the fight, but he was an old man in boxing terms and McGuigan's energy and all-action style saw him through. Think Azumah Nelson deserves to be talked about more.

Check out some Bob Foster vids on youtube. One of my top 5 favorites. Failed horribly at his heavyweight fights, but at light heavy he was a MONSTER. Check out his dismemberment of Rondon and Quarry. Felony battery without going to jail.

I remember that Miguel Angel Gonzales had great skills but seemed to lack something against top guys. Had a good record but was destroyed by KT and to a lesser extent ODLH.
Fighting Harada is famous here in australia because of his bouts with Lionel Rose and Johnny Famechon.

LOOK at Mick...Good sh!!...Im having flash backs of a missing ICE and his list LOL.This could take all night so I'll Brain storm and forget digging up past issues,Notes and pulling tapes off shelf. CC to CutMeMick,Big time

Yanqui Diaz Fought in a golden era of light heavys.Fought the best and Though never a champ Is debatabley in the B.H.O.F upset future champ Mike rossman in scorther.Barley lost to Victor Galindez in 77' and yelled Robbery.Rematch was not as good and pretty clear for Galindez.Had two brutal wars with Undeniable warrior Matthew saad Muhammed.Lopez Entered his 4th titlke attempt in 80'and it was savage.LOpez was aggressor and Took early rounds pretty convincingley(to me at least) In thhe 8th He Cornered Muhammed and battered him with about 15 or 20 bombs and the ref.let it go as Saad ended the round throwing back.As was His nature the punches seemed to empower Saad he he stormed back in the 13th and 14,Knocking Lopez down FOUR times,Lopez was done no doubt. Lost to 14-0 Michael Spinks via tko 7 .LOst to Deleon when he was pretty used up in 83' KO 4.Also lost to Unknown "hidden" talent James scott in a fight that was held in Rahway state prison where Scott was serving time for Robbery and Murder..Crazy sh!! Yehh,he lost most of the big ones but was all balls

Carlos Deleon IMO gets a bad rap as most focus on his Ill advised Heavy weight adventures and staying around too long.won 1st of 4 Cruiser belts on undercard of "NO-MAS" fight w.15 Marvin Camel, lost it twice and regained it twice.Lost Via tko to Holyfield and yet again regained it a year later in 89'
"Sugar" fought on and In 1990 met 17-0 Massimi$#@!(sorry cant spell it) Duran for WBC Cruiser and was DQ'd for Knocking Duran down AT the Bell/After to end 11th round.Became trial horse at Heavy.DeLeon was NO BUM at cruiser!

Good points Mick and great list of Great fighters....and you are right many of them do go unnoticed but have in every way deserved the attention of all those we speak about on the norm...

Johnny Tapia is actually one of my all time favorites, Mi Vida Loca is a name that could not be more befitting of a fighter if you sat and tried for the Million Dollar prize,

One of the greatest Super Flyweights to ever grace the sport I remember his fight with Danny Romero when he added the IBF SFW title to his WBO version, It looked as though Johnny was on his way to being one of the all time greatest little men to ever put on a pair of gloves, Sadly enough it was no long after Johnny and his drug use became a problem....No matter how bad it got though through the years you never looked at Tapia like one of those loser types who you wished went away...Not even when he tried to kill himself or his wife Theresa,,,you always felt for him in a personal way...almost like a lost family member you wish you could help but they were too far gone. When he spoke you could tell by the look in his eyes there is not a truly bad bone in his body he was just so consumed by the drugs

I had seen him and Theresa in an interview once where it was brought up that she told him she would leave him and could not do this anymore, The hurt in his eyes and the way they teared up actually brought tears to my eyes..I swear after that interview if I could have done something for the man I would have found a way to get in touch with him and offered him any help I could have possibly given, Thats how much you felt for Tapia during those years

In the ring Tapia never left you wanting for more, he has been out gunned and out classed but even when he was out gunned or out classed Johnny fought like a true champion never making and excuse for his loss other then the other guy got me that night what am I going to do..while he flashed that school boy smile....

I remember after his losses to Ayala I truly though Tapia was done with then he comes back to KO Soto a few fights later almost as if he reinvented himself

He fights now for money sad to say...thankfully it is not often but when he was KO'd back in 05 by some kid I never even heard of and unless I looked him up on boxrec could not tell you his name now...It actually hurt...It reminded me of how my Father felt after watching Ali lose to Spinks and have to endure the embarrassment of the Berbick loss.....Reminds you exactly how much you get behind your favorites and what they mean to you....

Tapia is an all time great in my book....A lot of great fight memories from his career.....

Marlon Starling This is a fighter I really am developing a like for the more I watch and read In hindsight. He has a histoical bearing that I just heard Him talk about on a tape from when he was of ESPN as an in studio guest. He had a Crazy asz fight with Tomas Molinares in 88' in which he was dominating through 5 rnds.Right at the end of the 6th round without a doubt after the bell,He dropped his guard somewhat and Molinares was following through with a Hook?CRASH AND down Starling fell...In a Heap..it was brutal all stiff like he was shot.
Molinaras was new "champ" in the ugliest of ways (later it was reversed to a No Desicion).Starling had NO IDEA what happened,He argued with Larry Merchant "I was never down,He did not hit me",Poor Merchant told him they could have counted to 100 Lol.He later said He remembered coming out of the locker room into the ring and woke up in the Hospital. Now thats OOUUTT!!!
Right after that the commission in New Jersey Implemented the "banging on the ring apron" 10 seconds before the bell so fighters had an idea of closing rounds.
Regained title WBC by Knocking out Lloyd Honeyghan and his KO of Mark "The paul williams of the 80's" Breland was spectacular to win 1st title.

Good stuff Daxx.Tapia is one that could get over shadowed in great ring career because of his "Mi Vida Loca" Indeed. His Ko Loss in last fight was tuff to see, went out with body shot and could not get up.True class man...Remember he picked up The guy in respect and raised his hand.
Every one spoke of how Romero vs.Tapia would be all out war and Romero was sooo powerful.Tapia went in there and was ALL buisness.won it walking away.On a lighter note I loved His Socks LOL.CC to ya .

That was crazy.... Molinares and team celebrated like crazy in the ring while there was still some confusion as to what had just happened.
The way Marlon layed there was crazy I mean he didn't move for minutes...

    Freddie Norwood

    Ike Williams
    Luisito Espinoza
    Frankie Liles
    Edwin Rosario
    Dick Tiger
    Miguel Angel Gonzalez
    Howard Winstone
    Marlon Starling
    Pipino Cuevas
    Juan Coggi

    Thanks.
Can i add to the list i loved to watch Khoasai Galaxy he was super fly and built like a welter weight , had massive power and was a merciless walk in slugger, he made 20 defences of his WBA title . lost 1 fighton points before he won the title but reversed it with a ko.
Also a guy who i loved to watch was James Buddy McGirt this guy was wonderful to watch prior to his arm injury.
Even after he could no longer throw the left hook he still pushed great SWEETPEA close.
Dick Tiger was a top fighter also and he was subjected to one of the most classic 1 punch KO'S , by Bob Foster.
We could go on and on as this is a good subject but my 2 fav forgoten fighters are Khoasai Galaxy and Buddy McGirt.
