That's the word I'm not seeing in these threads, but I'll go ahead and say it.
I picked Hatton to win late by stoppage. Looks like we both lost. I'm crushed over it, (not blindsided, mind you, just crushed) and wish we could do it again differently. I guess it goes to show that wanting something to be a certain way doesn't make it so.
So then, a few things. I was very surprised at the amount of holding FLOYD was doing. I was also surprised at the massive amount of forearms and elbows he was able to ding Ricky's head up with without any word from Joe. I think it wore Ricky out alot faster than normal, and to be honest, I didn't see it coming. You might say Floyd took a little of Ricky's 'hook 'n hold' and used it on the Hitman himself.
So there were elbows and holding and forearms and even a bit of rope-a-dope.
BUT, let me say this. When Floyd opened up after 6, there wasn't fu**-all Ricky or anyone else could have done in there. He hit Ricky at will, and the counter hook in the corner that started the beginning of the end was as picture-perfect as you could ask for.
Prior complaints (small) aside, the elbows and rough house tactics had naught to do with Hatton getting sparked in the 10th. I'll never like Floyd, but he sure is something dazzling to watch. Great job Floyd, and Ricky I still love you, that was just the way it had to be.
