Thread: It's sparring night...

Tonight is sparring night... I am so excited... this is a portion out of my daily journal that I keep for myself... I wrote this, this morning and thought that I would share it with the board...

"I think ahead to this evening… I will fight tonight… I will probably bleed… I will probably feel pain… and I throw my head back and laugh because I know my body can take all that the other one has to dish out… and I laugh because I know I am going to give as much as I take… and I laugh because I am a man… and as a man… life is a fight… this is nothing but play and preparation for the real world… and I know today is going to be a good day…

Fighting back… and laughing at the world… because I am more then most… "

Gally... look back to some of my posts from January of last year... I was scared stiff of getting in the ring...had jitters every time... and still do a lot of times... but it lets me know that I am alive... and I will not back down from my fear... I will not let fear rule my life... I push back hard... I would rather get knocked out then not get in that ring because I am scared... I will not tolerate fear in my life...

gave you rep on this bro ive had the same attitude lately, better off going down fighting, and all sparring has a trainer there so you aint gna get get killed altho i havent always been like this i used to get sooooo nervous its untrue.

You may be interested in reading an article written by Gene Tunney entitled "a man must fight" or any of the extract from "Somedy up der likes me, by Rocky Graziano."

I find that getting hit is a small price to pay for the satisfaction I get from hitting somebody back.

My biggest battle, like so many fighters, even very good fighters, is to control nervous energy in the ring. I'm not talking about being scared - more hyper and overanxious. I think that relaxed mind and body can only come from many more rounds than I have sparred and focusing on trying to improve in that area.

All of my sparring has been tightly controlled. I'm still a rookie, and the guys in my guy who are fighters or spar regularly are way ahead of me, so my coach puts tight controls on the work, but Saturday, I'm going to get a real session in, finally. I'm very much looking forward to it.
