    Default Mundine's style

Just watched Mundines latest fight against Hamden, which was very entertaining by the way and well worth a watch.

But it occurs to me that Mundine's style is becoming more and more Roy Jonesque'.

His stance is the same, he holds his hands exactly the same and he even throws punches in a similar fashion.

I know Jones Sr is his trainer so am wondering if he's instilled this Jones style into him or whether he's always fought in this manner?

Anybody else have thoughts on this?

I think its both Mundine looks up to Roy, and he is trained by the guy who made Roy Jones Jr who he was, athletics aside. Mundine has as close to the same speed as Roy as anybody above Welterweight has had, but he doesn't have the slick moves, the imagination, defensive radar that Roy got from fighting since he was a young at a high level, and all the shit Roy's dad put him through. Mundine is a poor man's Roy Jones Jr, not quite as quick, doesn't hit as hard, doesn't have Roy's skills, but he is pretty damn good, and an amazing athlete. I would be interested to see him fight Kessler again.

Yeah I agree, he's not nearly as good as a prime Roy Jones but if you just watch his body movements and stance you can fool yourself into thinking your watching Jones.

It's uncanny the resemblence in styles, he definitely appears to have consciously modelled it imo,

I've always thought that of Mundine. He definetly tries to mimick Roy Jones' style.. He, you could pick worse people to model in regards to styles..
As long as he's really grasped the fundamentals, I think it can work for him... There are people where I used to train that tried to fight in a Roy Jones style, but they weren't very good boxers to begin with, and all it did was give them a huge bunch of weaknesses...

I'm still waiting for Mundine to be in a genuinally testing fight to see how his style goes.

If your going to fight like Jones you need amazing reflexes, I'm not sure Mundine quite has them.
