Thumbs up Edwin Valero Cleared To Fight in Texas!

Edwin Valero Cleared To Fight in Texas
    by Doug Fischer

Edwin Valero, the undefeated WBA 130-pound titlist who was banned from fighting in the U.S. by the New York State Athletic Commission four years ago due to a previous non-boxing related head injury, has been cleared to fight in the state of Texas, according to his Japan-based promotional company Teiken Boxing.

Valero's application for a Texas boxing license was recently approved by the Department of Licensing and Regulation, which governs all boxing matters that take place in Texas. According to Teiken, Valero had to pass a battery of physical and neurological exams in
order to satisfy the state regulators and medical specialists.

The decision by Texas boxing officials comes as good news to Valero, who has fought in Japan, his native Venezuela, Argentina, Panama, France and Mexico since his boxing license was put on indefinite medical suspension in the U.S., but has yearned to fight in
America, where he first turned heads as an underground boxing sensation.
“I am very pleased to know that Texas has approved my license,” said Valero, who holds a perfect 23-0 (23) record, including 19 first-round KOs. “It has been four years since I have boxed in the United States. I am back! I will deliver my best performance ever when I fight in Texas. Thank you to the officials who made this possible and to all the fans who have supported me; I will make you proud.”

The 26-year-old southpaw is currently training in Las Vegas with noted veteran boxing coach Kenny Adams in preparation for his next fight against his WBA mandatory challenger, Israel Perez of Argentina, on June 12th in Tokyo, Japan. After this mandatory title defense, Valero says he would like to fight in Texas against a top-rated junior lightweight or lightweight contender sometime this September.

That's great news. He's an exciting fighter to watch and I hope he does well.

Well, this is the day everyone was waiting for. I wonder who they get?

It is a bit disappointing though, I was hoping for Pacquiao's Macau fight to be versus Valero and I thought they would do it because that is the only time it could reasonably happen. I thought it would be perfect.

Not sure if they can do that in Texas and create that kind of interest. So I'm happy, but I still want to see him fight in China against Pacquiao.

for some reason i have a feeling pac nor arum will ever have any of his fighters fight in macau? i mean arums been saying pac will fight there next after every fight pacs had since moralesII?

i dont trust arum worth sh*t.

i bet arum gets paid by steve wynn just by mentioning macau in interviews, cuz why else would he always be saying that over and over again for like the last 4yrs and never actually acting on his word?

smart business man but not to be taken literally at all.

Valero is ok, I still think he's a lot of hype and might get picked apart by a sharper boxer/puncher but he has done well so far. Fighting in the US he'll finally get some tougher tests

Ha-ha, Macau, what a sleaze-pit that place is! Good fun, though.

I wonder if Arum has even been there. He'd better give the Chinese lads with tattoos their cut if he wants to put on a show.

I like Valero but he is very limited and has no defense either, im just waiting for the day he will get exposed. Guzman would give Valero a boxing lesson IMO power only gets you so far in boxing there will come a time and it will come quickly for Valero. When he realizes power won't save him in every fight.

Yeah Guzman would pick him apart but as long as he is aggressive and has that power, he can make some noise. We just saw it in Katsidis. Katsidis has much more polish but the same concept.

I wouldn't be surprised if we actually get to see Guzman vs Valero in the near future. Neither of those two will be able to see Pacquiao anytime soon. Guzman because Arum was not so happy with Guzman's running against Soto and Valero would need to work his way up to make it a big money fight.

Golden Boy has Guzman and Marquez in their roster so I also wouldn't be suprised to see that happen either. That would be a great fight and also would add to either's "money making ability" and wouldn't hurt their legacies either.

This is a Valero thread, how did I end up focusing on Guzman?!

It's not that hard seeing as how he is NEVER talked about. Could be the most talented boxer in all the sport and no one talks about him ever. Even I'm guilty and I'm a fan, the guy is a marvel to watch but for whatever reason just doesn't have a buzz.
