    Default Valero - Gamboa

I just noticed that Yuriorkis Gamboa is ranked as no. 3 in WBA's Super Featherweight rankings. That is for the title that Valero has now, which got me thinking of this match up.

We're still one week short of the first anniversary of Gamboa's pro debut, but what do you guys think of this? Would Gamboa (already) be too slick, or would he be instantly knocked out by the hardhitting Valero? Personally, I'm actually fancying Gamboa's chances there. How about you?

IMO Gamboa is in the same league or close to it in power... I think he would eat Valero alive, he is way too fast, too good, too strong ,etc.

Yuriorkis is no tricycle driver. Valero could get KTFO like Darch experienced.

Too early to say that Gamboa has similar power. I suspect it will turn out that he doesn't have that kind of power. He obviously has much much faster hands so can catch guys with shots they don't see more than Valero but he doesn't look to have that kind of thudding power of a guy like Valero.

I have high hopes for him though. I'm interested to see how he looks against Darling Jimenez. Jimenez is no mug, I fully expect Gamboa to win but if he does it in thoroughly dominant fashion I'll be impressed.

Gamboa doesn't have Valero's power but he does have twice as much speed and skill IMO.

I know he's only a newcomer to the pros, but I think he'd eat Valero up.

I'm with this guy. It would be a cracking fight even this early in the guys career. Gamboa is far from the finished article, he has great physical attributes but needs to pick his shots more. Maybe he will do this anyway when he actually faces an opponent whos ability he respects.

Agreed with OumaFan. Let's see this Darling Jiminez fight and see how that turns out. Jiminez looked very good when he KO'd Anchondo. That's one to watch, it'll tell us a lot or at least confirm what we think of Gamboa and will certainly tell us about his power. I don't think he has Valero power though, just because Valero is very heavy handed.

I think Gamboa lands his left hook, when he throws properly has hard as any punch Valero throws... Gamboa does hit hard, its just he doesn't always put technique behind his punches.

IMO Gamboa hasn't even really tried to box since going pro... He has been so much better than his opponents that he has been going buck wild, but being an olympic champion and one of the best amateurs to come out of Cuba means that he has boxing skills, and though he still fought crazily in the amateurs, he is an amazing athlete who will be exciting for many years, I hope.

Agreed. "El Ciclon de Guantánamo" is NO JOKE.

    Check out his left hook...
