    Default Do Fighters Travel Well??

its an interesting subject this and being a brit(we know a lot about it) i have come to the conclusion that in general no matter of nationality they dont!

the brits fighting in america being one example,we rarely have success out of our comfort zone, but having said that you could apply that to americans and any country by the looks of it,

i.e ray robinson fought in britain 4 times and won only one, americans the few that do come here rarely win

I dunno. You have those examples mentioned but then you have people like Manny Pacquaio who have adopted Vegas like a second home when it comes to fighting there. Doesn't affect him in the least it seems. Miguel Cotto would be another example. I guess the first few times it might be nerves until you get comfortable. It took Ricky Hatton a couple to get comfortable as well.

Some guys it does not bother at all...Back in the days fighters traveled all the time....World Champion actually ment defending the title around the world...

Ali traveled well, Lennox Lewis, Glen Johnson has always traveled well hence the Road Warrior name....It all depends on the fighter and how long they give themselves to adjust before fighting

    It's simple for me....

A great champion wins on ANY turf.

    It's that simple.

exactly, doesnt matter if your fighting in las vegas or laos, the best fighter on the night will win regardless.

Only exception to the rule i would say was lewis-rahman in south africa, lennox very stupidly only went out their a few days before the fight and just could not get used to the climate.

heres a guy who`s clean sweeped the heavyweight division and been the distance on endless occasions breathing heavy after 5rounds with hasim rahman...he definetly didnt travel well that night!!

It wasn't where they were ,but the fact he wasn't training for his fight with Rahman... Lennox is known for not taking fights seriously. Ali never had trouble travelling, all the mexicans that have come up to the states and have done well. Monzon, Duran, The few cubans way back when, kid chocolate, kid Gavilan, Pacquaio(as was mentioned), Wright did well in Europe. Mayweather though he hasn't left the states has often been the hated boxer in his fights which resembles being the visitor, and he's done fine.
