Thread: HOlyfield v. TOney

I watched this fighter recently and realize why I like James Toney so much. NEXT!

Please discuss the fight.

He looked like class in that fight but acted like scum afterwards .

Even though I admire Toneys skills I hate watching the fight cuz I cant belive Evander lost to a fat loudmouth who was a middleweight 10 years b4. I'd love to see Evander get revenge and he may do if they met again .

REALLY Holyfield was past it and Toney was a fat blown up middleweight, anyone who likes Toney remembers the sharp middle/super middleweight, the last decent fight I saw Toney in was against Jirov and still then he was way over weight, look at the fights with Sam Peter, Toney has more ability in his little finger than Peter has. He isn't a heavyweight he is just a lazy guy who likes to eat lots these days.

I agree he acted bad afterwards and acted very ignorant, but man his skills in that fight were up there. Holyfield wasn't even on the same level.

That was Toney in awesome form and had he carried that to his heavyweight fights he would have beaten Peters and Rahman. Shame.

It wasnt so much what he said .It was the way he acted . He was arrogantly shouting his mouth off as if he'd beaten a prime Evander or summat . Then he started swearing and grabbed the mic off the announcer and threw it on the floor.

I think it was roid rage. He was very respectful to Holyfield though. Just lost it on the announcer. He was definitely juicing.....

For some reason he became angry with Jim Gray during the interview and slapped the mic out of his hand and walked off: which is bazaar behavior for a fighter who just won a fight.

Toney was sick of Jim Gray disrespecting fighters so he refused to do the interview and slapped the mic out of his hand. I thought it was hilarious.

True it was a washed up Holyfield, but still a tough Holyfield, and I thought it was a fantastic performance by James. His defense was spectacular. There was one part of the fight where James slipped a punch, stuck his tongue out at Holyfield while Evander was in the middle of throwing a jab, and then slipped that jab. It was fantastic stuff.

Toney at his best was a joy to watch especially in this fight and against Barkley, Jirov, Nunn, Toney was one hell of a tough cookie with that famous shoulder roll and it was beautiful to watch him roll with the punches and counter when he was at his best. But he was lazy and he sometimes struggled against fighters that he should of ate for breakfast, Dave Tiberi comes to mind.

I thought he did not disrespect Holyfield. He did say that he was going to KO Holyfield and everyone thought he was crazy but those body shots were vicious and they played a big part in stopping Holyfield.

Holyfield was wayyyy past his prime in that fight. Holyfield was completely exhausted when he went down. I like Toney but he wouldn't have been able to hold a candle to a prime Evander.

The Toney that fought Jirov at Cruiserweight vs Prime Holyfield at Cruiserweight would have been one not to miss.

I agree with you on that. But Holyfield would have been to much for Toney in a great fight.

Hoyfield didn't go down, it was stopped. He was getting hit with everything Toney threw and they stopped it.

At heavyweight no way, cruiser would have been an all time classic fight. I would lean towards Holyfield, cause I think he is stronger, but what a great fight.
