Default I hate to over do the hype....

But does Gamboa remind anyone of this guy

Kid Gavilan is one of the greatest fighters of all time but Gamboa reminds me a lot of him even if he doesn't have the same talent right now that Kid had in his prime. Gamboa has all the skills needed to do well but he needs to perfect what he does, he still gets sloppy and he still drops his hands...he needs a little more power or accuracy and he needs to quit wasting so many punches.

Other than that Gamboa has the ability to be just like the Kid

I think his growth focus needs to be mental...I was thinking A poormans J.J Molina for a moment

Too many guys today think they are ready to be the next super star with out actually walking as long a hard and tested Road

...I agree I think he needs a serious lesson in PROFESSIONAL boxing but he does have the goods, the question as always is WILL HE ACHIEVE HIS POTENTIAL? If it's to be as great as Kid Galivan then maybe not but he has enough skill to get the job done.....his mental and psychological toughness have to be better

I'm sorry Lyle and I know what your trying to say here

    BUT

The names Gamboa and Gavilan do not belong in the same sentence.
I like Gamboa as much as the next person but I'm sorry I don't see the logic behind this.... I just don't.

I don't think Gamboa accomplishes 1/4 of what Gavilan did.

At the top of the super featherweight heap there are a number of guys who have real power. Gamboa has great head movement, but he can get tagged as we saw tonight. If he does not get out of the habit of letting his hands dangle at his waste, he will eventually get knocked out IMO.

He has sort of a Roy Jones style, but he is fighting against guys who are all naturally a lot faster than Super Middleweights and LHW's. What happens when he takes his next step up in class?

My jury is still out on him.

I'm with 'ya 100% on this one...

I no longer put much on fighters with less then 15-20 fights even then depending on the opposition I still give them about 25 fights.

And honestly Lyle, NO Gamboa does not remind me of Gavilan.

He's a far better athlete than Molina, and he will be a better fighter than Gavilan, I personally have never seen Gavilan as that great, I think both Gamboa and Rigondeaux are better than him. Gavilan lost a lot of the big fights he was in. Gamboa is truly special or he will be if he changes just a few things, he has the athletic ability of guys like RJJ and Mike Tyson.

For a fighter to have well over 400 amateur fights, he should "BE" that good. Gamboa kinda reminds me of Joan Guzman .

I think he has the potential to do well...I'm just saying the style and manner in which he fights reminds me of Gavilan, not that he's going to be THAT good. Gamboa has a little jazz in his style a little flare just like Gavilan.

I'm not saying he's going to be half as good as Gavilan, if he was half as good as Kid, then he'd still be a great fighter. His style as a fighter reminds me of Gavilan.
