Default Pavlik- Lockett post fight ....part 2 is very interesting

Arum seems pretty confident in a Calzaghe show down with Pavlik on the 18th of October. If that is the case what was Rubio doing up there on stage.

Listening to that it's pretty clear what Team Pavlik would like.

They don't want to travel abroad for Abraham. Calzaghe would be a MEGA fight but why risk ruining Pavlik so fast? It's an old trick linking your man with the STAR names but NOT fighting them

Rubio or most likely DUDDY next would be my bet.

I don't think putting him in with Calzaghe would be a bad idea actually Fenster. Calzaghe would be favored by most in the boxing community, plus it would be a step up in weight so even if he loses I don't think he's ruined like Lacy (for one I don't see him taking that kind of a beating) and if he wins then he's big time (of course except for the fact that people would say Calzaghe was past it)

Pavlik certainly has more to gain. I don't think Calzaghe would ruin him in a Lacy sense.. just at the moment there's fights they can make where Pavlik is a good fav to win (even the other old boys - Winky and the like)

I don't see the risk of the fight from Calzaghe side either

If the money is big enough it will happen though.. thats for sure.

If Pavlik fights Rubio or Duddy instead of Abraham, Calzaghe, or Winky, than I'm going to have a real problem with him. His fanboys are already pissing me off, and if he begins a Calzaghe-like string of pointless title defenses I hope he gets treated with the derision he'll deserve.

I hear what your saying, but you also have to realize Pavlik has real potential to bring a mainstream audience to his fights. The first white American champion in eons is very signifigant, like it or not. I also have no doubt that Pavlik isn't afraid to fight the most dangerous opponents out there, hell he's already proven that... But when you think about it from a promotional standpoint, if he loses to Calzaghe or Winky now, it's right back to the drawing board with nothing to have furthered the sport. Not only that, but it seems his popularity is increasing with each outing, even with the soft touch Lockett. On one hand it's kind of a shame since Winky and Calzaghe are both way up there in years, and if they don't fight Pavlik soon it may never happen. But at the same time, I understand Pavliks handlers trying to build up his profile in the mainstream, and brutal TKO's will do that for casual fans, regardless of the opponent. You have to consider that for most of the people who made the trip from Youngstown to Atlantic city, or even many tuning in at home, there's little to seperate Gary Lockett and Joe Calzaghe. Neither are really well known in the US, though Calzaghe's profile is probably a bit higher for having beat Hopkins, even then it hardly made him a star.

I believe Kelly when he says "I'll fight anybody they put in front of me." I believe it more in him then I do any other fighter that says it today, and we know that most of them say it. Just few of them actually mean it.

But alas, thus we have promotors and who must earn their wages and %'s, and if they are worth their salt, they'll be looking at things more closely then just the next fight, but in a progressive career oriented way. I don't see Pavlik fighting another Lockett though. I don't think he would personally stand for it. Sure he is humble, but he is also proud and knows what the fans think and want. His next fight, I believe, will be worth the watch and hopefully test him.

I noticed Lockett was nowhere to be seen in that post fight conference. Must of been a long line in the emergency room.

There wasn't enough room on the podium for Lockett and the 4 guys holding the stretcher. The logistics would have been difficult

Like all Pro fighters Pavlik's number one priority is to make money. When you're a nobody, the only chance to make mega bucks is against the BIG names. When you become a BIG name yourself, you can earn BIG bucks against lesser fighters.

I believe Pavlik WANTS to fight the best. But like everyone else, the MONEY has to be right. I'm sure Pavlik wont have a problem cashing in against the likes of Duddy...

Duddy won't last any longer than Lockett did. I want to see Kessler/Pavlik for some reason.

He's had his Duddy fight. He's allowed it, and earned it. I hope he fights joe. Truly I do. I have no disrespect for Joe, but am fairly sure Pavlik will have to have his hammering right surgically removed from Joe's mellon if the fight ever takes place.

I'd love to see Kessler-Pavlik, and I wouldn't be surprised if Kessler managed to win.
