Default Dela Hoya responds to PACQUIAO challenge

"De La Hoya, 35, previously had planned one bout in December after fighting Floyd Mayweather, but he said on Thursday that he would now have just one fight in 2008 after plans for a rematch against Mayweather were scuttled last week by that boxer's retirement.

He said he was committed to fighting at 70kg (154 lbs.), meaning any opponent would have to adjust to that weight.

"Manny Pacquiao is calling me out. He can jump up two or three weight classes and challenge me," De La Hoya said."

Oscar fought Forbes at 150 lbs., I think he can offer PAC to fight him at 147 lbs. instead of 154 lbs. (70 kg.)...

More like it... PAC will be very happy if ODH can go down to 140... but ODH needs to cut one of his legs in order to make 140 lbs...

Sounds like he's setting up a Sergio Mora fight...I actually think this is a good fight. I might actually root for Oscar. They are both from East LA, and I think its a good matchup. Mora's natural size and speed against Oscar's better abilities.

Problem with DelaHoya is that, he has no belt... PAC is aiming for a world title belt in his 4th weight division this coming June 28 and after that (if PAC is successful) he might be aiming for another world title belt in his 5th weight division... DelaHoya has no belt to offer...

    PAC going for 4 ...

link --> ROACH BELIEVES PACQUIAO CAN BEAT DE LA HOYA

"Roach said: ”to be honest with you I think Manny can beat Oscar.” He said Pacquiao’s speed would be too much for “an old man” referring to De La Hoya.

For the fight to happen, Roach, who trained De La Hoya for his fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr said “he (De La Hoya) must at least come down to 147 pounds.”

With Mayweather’s announced retirement the planned September rematch that De La Hoya was looking at is out and his other possible opponent Ricky Hatton has made it clear he wouldn’t be ready to fight in September.

This makes a Pacquiao-De La Hoya fight a possibility although the question as to the Golden Boy’s willingness to come down in weight may eventually determine whether the fight would happen."

This is a credible assessment since Roach trained both Dela Hoya and Pacquiao and he can have an accurate assessment of both fighter's abilities...

The idea of this fight coming off is ludicrous, it would never happen.

This is silly. Oscar will barely make 147, so Pac would have to come in at 143 or so and Oscar would be 158 on fight night.

Boy, Pac is sure looking for the money right now. He lost to JMM 2X in a lot of people opinion at 130. Diaz will give him a tough fight. I don't think he can beat Hatton at 140, much less ODLH at 147. Little man is talking crazy. Maybe Hatton should challenge Pavlik.
