Thread: Calzaghe plans return to 168

Joe Calzaghe has stated that he is still the WBO and he intends to go back down to 168 after his fight with Jones.This is good news the Pavlik fight has to happen now that will be a massive fight that needs to happen. Personaly i don't think he will, but there is always a chance, so why drop it if he can keep it?

I think he wants to keep the possibility of a Pavlik fight alive after Jones. As that is his only other big money fight on the horizon.

After he fights and beats Pavlik, then will you all STFU!

If Joe gets to 25 recleaning out 168lbs then he deserves the record tbh.

I dont see them as the same record. Joe Louis defended the UNDISPUTED WORLD heavyweight title 25 times. Calzaghe defended an alphabet title. An alphabet title that some in the media do not even consider a legit alphabet title.

And I think Kelly puts Joe to sleep.

I don't think it's that big of a deal.

He doesn't have to give up the title, at the moment, so why would he?

The immediate plans can easily go wrong. It would be naive not to have the title in tow

10+ years as SMW WBO champ. What did he achieve in those 10+ years? Very little other than staying undefeated. He is good and excellent fighter but not great. Being undefeated is not greatness if you never tested your ability to the limit against other champ of the division. Again there's still time for JC to become one of the all time great. So this plan of returning to SMW division is a step to the right direction. This division is where he belongs and reigns for so many years along with other champs of the division. He can clean the division, unify all belts to become undisputed and go out on top. If he doesn't, well, he's just one of the greatest British boxers ever.

Looking past the next fight always spells disaster. Zah judah and Vernon Forrest spring to mind.
