    Default James Toney-Tony Thompson

    Who wins this matchup?

This will be a tough fight for James Toney, I am wondering why he made it. The chances are either guy could be next for David Haye or Cris Arreola.

James Toney is crafty and hard to hit but Thompson has a hell of a defense and a very good chin....it's a tough tough fight for James Toney

Toneys one of my all time favorite fighters so I'm picking him to win by UD. I think hes got a few decent fights left in him and can make one last run a HW title, thats only if he takes it serious and comes in in decent shape like he did for the last Rahman fight.
You figure he has to know time isn't on his side and its either now or never to make one final run.

This fight will be so awkward for Thompson. If I'm not mistaken, this is the tallest opponent Toney has ever fought. At 5'10 (probably 5'9) Toney will make him spread his feet his part and lean over. Thompson isn't a big guy even though he's tall and his best bet is to just stay light on his feet so he can pitty-pat Toney all night at a distance. Nobody is getting KO'd by I can see this being an difficult fight for both guys.

Quite ironic...In his last fight Toney fought and won(IMO) against Rahman and now Toney fights the looser of Wlads last fight whereas Rahman gets another titleshot...I think Rahman and Toney should switch roles, but on the other hand I'm gonna enjoy seeing Wlad knocking out Rahman...

As for Toney Thomson...like you said Lyle...gonna be a tough fight for Toney...will be interesting how Toney will deal with the reach disadvantage...

It is a very tough fight for James, so Im really curious to see how he goes about getting inside and closing the gap. We all know Toney is not known for his footwork or conditioning at HW, so this will be interesting.

Hopefully, if Toney is staying in "shape" and he comes in with a plan he has a shot of pulling out a win. But its a pick 'em. We've only seen a few rounds of Toney in a few years now, he's an unknown quantity himself. Im hoping he gets the job done.

I actually wish James Toney got a shot vs Wlad instead of Rahman...it's a more interesting match up IMO.

Tony Thompson is bigger than Wladimir Klitschko or at least heavier than him. Tony is 6'6 and weighed 247 vs Wladimir. Sure Toney is going to be in the high 230's but the height, jab, and defense have won Thompson many a fight.

I agree it's a tough matchup for Toney - I always enjoyed watching him fight, but I have to wonder how many he's got left in the tank before the long career catches up with him. Good thing he's got a ton of skill to rely on...should be an interesting fight.

Agreed big time Johnny.I see this as awarding Rahmans...cough...."finding a way out" vs.Toney.He wanted nothing to do with that right hand after getting rocked and cut.

Off the top I can not get away from seeing Thompson causing some awkward problems for Toney ? Real range and gets a little clingy in there?Do not see Thompson hurting Toney but may frustrate him quite a bit.Announcers are going to have fun with this one.James Toney vs.Tony thompson...the blow by blow gives us Toney-Thompson ,Might come off a bit biased Lol.

If Rahman didn't like Toney's right hand then he's certainly not going to like Wlad's

I think I'd rather see Wlad fight Toney too. More than likely Thompson is going to just keep him on the outside with few problems, but Klitschko is a lot more stationary and will feel comfortable with opening up his defense a lot more than he has in his last few fights. Toney would try to crack his chin and if he was able to hurt him Wlad would just cover up, but I want to see Toney whip his body around trying to get away from that right hand. I could see Toney having more success getting inside than against Thompson, but I see him losing both fights.
