I believe Dawson has better handspeed than Calzaghe, because he is actually throwing his punches along with that speed. Roy IMO also had faster handspeed, because it takes speed off your punches a little to throw them properly. Anybody can slap quickly, but how many people can throw combinations like Mike Tyson quickly?
Chad Dawson is a little faster than Calzaghe, but he is fighting up hill battle, I think he did a great job against Glen Johnson, and showed he can deal with somebody throwing punches at him a lot, because he continued to fire right back. But Joe is a lot faster than Glen Johnson and harder to hit.
My question is while Glen Johnson could deal with Chad Dawson's punches, how will Joe deal wtih Dawson's power? People are saying Joe has a great chin, but both Hopkins and JOnes don't hit anywhere near as hard as they did in their prime and they both hurt and dropped him. Dawson at this point hits harder than either of them. Kessler is a solid puncher, but not a super heavy puncher, and he hurt Calzaghe several times in their fight. I know Joe responded brilliantly everytime he got hurt, but these other three guys don't have the workrate, power(even though Dawson isn't a BIG puncher), or speed Dawson has.
I don't think calzagfhe was hurt with the hopkins knockout, he was more surprised that he went down with a flash knockdown. With roy he was hurt and I thought roy had him.
