Thread: The Day we lost Mr Invinsible

When Shane Mosley was on his game he was one of the best boxers ever to live, but this round was when he lost his prime. Many fighters throughout history have lost their prime in one fight ( Vargas, Taylor, Lacy, Frietas, etc). Shane never dropped to mediocre status, till this day he still is very competitive, but no where near what he once was. Don't know if it was the headbutt or the beating afterwards but he was never Mr Invinsible

Wasn't that the night where Shane came into the ring in Apollo Creed's entrance song "Living in America" and also wore Apollo's trunks?

He set himself up! Apollo died in the ring when he had that attire and entrance.

I liked Shane Mosley but he was never one of the best boxers, he just wasn't a pure boxer. I think because he was lightning quick, people automatically think he was slippery pure boxer when he never was. He's the modern day version of Meldrick Taylor. Which means he had lightning quick handspeed like Meldrick Taylor, but neither of them were pure boxers.

They liked to get in there and slug, although i think Meldrick Taylor could box a more technical fight than Shane Mosley. See his fight Buddy McGirt, but im not saying Shane Mosley doesn't have boxing skills. Of course he does but he's overrated as a boxer, i've never really ever seen him beat a fighter just using his boxing skills.

He either overwhelmed an opponent with his lighting combinations, or he had the power to KO opponents. At Lightweight he did anyway. Where as pure boxers like Pernell Whitaker/Floyd Mayweather Jr could easily win fights just using there boxing skills.

There was a thread a while back about fighters who had another fighters number. I agreed that Mosley Forrest was that kind of fight. Much like Jones Barrera. There were some really good examples of times when fighters just did some things better than the other (even though they were overall not as good technically) which gave them the edge and took something away from the other guy.

Mosley is and always has been a boxer-puncher. That's not in disagreement by the way, but to me he was never a pure 'boxer'

I think Mosley was/is much more solid in endurance and longevity than Taylor.Taylor was brilliant in handspeed,great courage and shifting angels but after Chavez ,2 years,he was toast.Mosley was caught by Forrest but was never battered to the degree Taylor was.I thought Taylor lost to Garcia and was lucky vs. Glennwood Brown also.Dumb move by Mosley to chase Wright for 24 rounds,Wright,Forrest boxed his arse.Styles make fights.

Against Oscar it was a competitive fight that he dominated in the second parts of it.

But most of his fights after that weren't really against any world beaters that he was made to look spectacular against. He ran into forrest who didn't just stand in front of him and used his jab that no one had done to effectiveness since the Oscar fight. Forrest just had Shane's number, he didn't ruin Shane. Shane still has plenty in the tank imo

I think Berto beats him if that fight gets made. I thought Mayorga was beating him up till the last minute too. He was a great fighter but he's past it now.

I was looking everywhere on youtube for the first round of that fight but it's not on there. Shane Mosley was destroying Forrest, he almost even scored a KD. It was typical Mosley on a way to another KO but he got headbutted. I know one round does not make a fight but he was a totally different fighter after that, even when he fought lessor opponents. Oscar saw that that's why Oscar wanted a rematch, he was no longer the same
