Thread: Is it advisable for Hoya to take this PAC fight personally?

We can understand why Hoya is so angry with PAC since PAC disappointed and dumped Hoya many times before:

- Nov.2003: PAC disappointed DelaHoya by mauling a boxer newly signed by Golden Boy Promotions... What an initiation! PAC destroying GBP's newly acquired probable cash cow, Marco Antonio Barrera...

- Nov.2006: PAC dumped DelaHoya in his bid to become PAC's boxing promoter... What a suitcase full of dollar bills! PAC didn't want to become GBP's cash cow...

- Aug.2007: PAC disappointed DelaHoya by not being present during GBP's Mexico vs. Philippines Boxing World Cup matches... Instead of flying to Sacramento from LA, PAC fly home to the Philippines! PAC don't want to get involved in GBP's promotion

- Aug.2008: PAC dumped Oscar's 70-30 purse split offer... What a slap in the face! PAC finally got 38% PPV revenue sharing...

Is it advisable for Hoya to take this PAC fight personally? Most would say that it's not good to fight with your emotions... You should fight intelligently not emotionally...

The former six-division champion, who has only won one of his five biggest fights he had, seems hell bent on seeking redemption and “honor”.

De la Hoya said December 6 will be “payback time” for Pacquiao for reportedly failing to honor their deal when he signed up the Filipino to fight under his promotional outfit Golden Boy Promotions.

"That night we signed a deal and he turned his back on me. He's going to have to pay come December 6… It's very personal for me,” he said.

Hope that it's what Hoya's mindset... If Hoya brings so much emotions to the fight, I think it's not a very good idea...

Here's PAC side of this "personal" issues. I like PAC's mindset going to this fight...

De La Hoya, who can be as genial and vanilla in his pre-fight rhetoric as any marquee fighter in the history of the sport, has made it quite clear that he'd like to make 'the Pac Man' pay for his indiscretion. For him, this isn't just another fight, but an ongoing battle for the control of boxing and its chess board versus their arch-rival Top Rank (just listen to Bernard Hopkins' statement after his victory over Kelly Pavlik). And oh yeah, they want to punish Manny. This has become quite personal.

"That's his beliefs, I respect that, but for me, it's nothing personal," PAC would say a couple of weeks back as he finished up his roadwork at Griffith Park near Hollywood. "I'm going to go in the ring and fight like a man and to give a good fight to make people happy."

When asked if he had any bitter feelings, Pacquiao would tell Maxboxing, "I know he's angry at me, disappointed, but I don't want to bring that business to the fight on December 6th. I want to focus on my fight and don't want to be distracted in the ring."

Any make him pay talk is just phoney baloney coming from DLH noawadays. He's a businessman and tells the press what they want to hear .

That's really the point... Hoya is a shrewd businessman... Money is more important for him...

All that PAC did to him eventually boils down to money:
- PAC destroyed his potential cash cow Barrera
- PAC didn't choose GBP as his promoter
- PAC didn't endorsed events promoted by GBP
- PAC asking bigger share than what Hoya is willing to give (at first)

If you screw Hoya about money, he will take it personally...

Of course it's all hype. But to be honest...if anything...it has been a bad idea for Freddie Roach to be talking so much smack. Sure, Oscar is a businessman...but love him or hate him...he is still a very good fighter. No reason to put a fire under a champion. Roach is trying to hype it up as well, and take pressure of Manny...but it could backfire.

Well the Mayorga fight he said "he has insulted me" and "I'm gonna knock you out". With Floyd it was the "he needs to be humbled" and all that. He does say all the right things in a build up and I fall for it every time, it just might be very special, and if it is, I want to watch it as it happens...because if it is a special night Manny has his hands high come the final bell

Oscar is too experienced in these type of fights, only once IMO did he go away from the strategy in a fight, and that was Chavez II. Either than that I feel that he has stayed with the game plan, and he will this Saturday.

Manny always looks in fantastic condition but its his mental state that may be more revealing . . . . . Freddie Roach has stated that there was a time in the Marquez fight where he thought Pac would quit . I remember watching it live. I think it was teh 9th round. Pac was visbilby hurt from a body shot and was squinting . I think he was there for the taking but his mental strength got him through it. I reckon he thought to himself theres no way he can let Marquez get the better of him . However vs OPscar Im wondering whtrher he will be willing to go through the pain or except defeat at teh 1st opportunitu .

Im not saying Pac may mentally throw in the towel but I think it will be easier for him to back down vs Oscar cuz he is such a big underdog and people really dont expect that much of him . Vs Marquez he had to really bite down and battle back hard. Just a though .
