Default Calzaghe "Boxing is Dying" Blames himself.

"There is too much politics in boxing, too many belts and too many champions, which dilutes real champions like myself," he said. "There are four world champions in each division and it's bad because there are no stars any more. It's a big problem." Joe Calzaghe

He took a division that had never had an undisputed champion, became the undisputed champion, but left before making a single defence. Then beats the linear champion(that has a 7 year lineage) in another division, makes one dfence, and is going to retire. He is creating the exact circumstances he is complaining about.

He was the universally recognised super middleweight champion after beating Lacy and Kessler. He beat the linear Light Heavyweight champion in B Hop, what else must he do. He is at the end of his career and does not want and have to fight mandatories. He would get criticised for that. What more do you want from him?

I was criticizing him for the quote not for his record in the ring. Why don't you respond to what I said because this has nothing to do with my criticism. I am not a troll looking for an argument about how good Calzaghe is.

    Calzaghe is 100% right.

It's a bit unfair to criticize him for not defending after unifying the divison. There was nothing left to prove so he went after glory in the next weight divison. He HAS to retire at some point.

Problem is.. his comments seem hypocritical coming from a fighter that spent years plying his trade as WBO "world" champion.

Really he still needs a lot. But I'll settle for him just fighting Chad Dawson. A young fighter in his prime. Fight Dawson and that's it. He wants to retire after that. Fine. Let him. I'll even say he's earned it. Just fight Dawson. Sadly since Dawson ain't close to collecting social security, I doubt the fight will ever happen.

Ah here we go again, what was Kessler then?

Kessler had been a champ for a few years, had unified a couple of belts, is 8 years younger.

Kessler had never been knocked down either

well thats one fighter. he is gettin on abit so you cant really complain about him retiring for that point of view...i guess he just left it abit late...but if he feels boxing is dying a few days after a fight with huge pay per view numbers...why doesnt he try and fight a few more and try to help the problem? unless he feels he's slipping maybe? there are one or two who he could fight though, who should be able to improve his record do you not think?

He ran away from real challenges for most of his career, and arguably beat Hopkins, and didn't rematch Hopkins, but instead fought a man who hadn't won a big fight since 2004.
