    Default Something different

Well we've all heard of no sex before a big fight. What would you think about no booze before a bout. Here me out. Now most fighter's do stay sober in training except a certain few. For instance I heard Jake Lamotta used to take shot's of whiskey (or vodka I forget) before getting into the ring to dismiss fear of getting hurt. I also heard John Conteh was another fighter who loved it all drinking, screwing, and just flat out partying before fight's. A few other's I can't remember at the time. Do you think this really is a big deal to drink a couple of days before the fight or even the day before a big fight.

Nigel Benn said he had sex before fights.

    Define drinking.

I couldn't imagine stepping into the ring for a fight with a hangover. Not that I've had many of them...but in my limited experience, walking with them and standing erect is a task in and of itself.

It reeks havoc on your body.

I am not really talkng about getting bombed. Of course a hangover the next day wouldn't be to smart but maybe a few brews the day before or the night of before you get in the ring.

John L. Sullivan, Jem Mace, Tom Cribb and others used to drink whisky between rounds .... never mind abstaining before a fight.

Alcohol dehydrates you. It's not a good idea. I once had a few beers and then played a couple of games of basketball on a very hot day. I got really light headed and felt like I was gonna pass out. Felt really sick the rest of the day.

    very true

i sweat like a pig in the gym the morning after a heavy session on the booze.

I personally wouldnt touch the stuff until after the fight but maybe the evening before once the weigh in is over and done with it`d be ok to settle back with a few pints just to ease the tension somewhat.

Cant really imagine a bernard hopkins or floyd mayweather knocking back a pint of budweiser the night before a fight
    one dangerous horrible bloke
