Default Monster Quest plumbs new depths

I don't know if anyone other than myself and Boxing Gorilla watch this often ridiculous but highly entertaining crypto hunt doc series but a recent episode I watched last night must be the low point (or high depending on your perspective) of the series so far.

They actually went searching for the Jersey Devil, a hoofed monster with the head of a horse, wings of a bat and walking upright like a man.

This was their video impression of the monster that they were using 'science' to discover

Now unsuprisingly as the sightings are seemingly in the Hick capital of America they managed to find a family who were stalked by this beast one night a decade or so ago. It had even left footprints on their roof.

The sceptic and animal expert was pretty adamament what they had seen was a very large Owl, apparently that are is home to Americas largest owl, and the footprints on the roof were consistent with a large bird hopping across the roof.

But of course, this being America, home of Trainer Monkey level crazies the family were adament that what they had seen was actually at least 400 lbs in weight and much bigger than a human. They even passed lie detecter tests which again is hardly suprising in hill billy central.

The 'largest scientifically organised hunt ever for the Jersey Devil' was organised by Monster Quest as if they might actually find something, (of course they didn't) and they even speculated on the creatures origins as being the son of a human woman who preyed to God after having previously 13 healthy children 'Lord Please make this a DEVIL!'.

I don't know where they will go next, I personally think they are just making up mythical creatures at this point but I do much prefer when they actually focus on stories that have at least some credibility to them, Big Cats where they arn't supposed to be, alligators in the sewers etc, at least these kind of shows could possibly just maybe have some truth to them and they may actually make an exciting discovery.

But wasting time and money to organise a hunt for a made up creature and then make a show claiming to be 'scientific' to display their 'evidence' is just ruining the show for me.

Please guys, enough with the swamp monsters from hell, Jersey Devil's, flying spaghetti monsters etc, let's just spend time looking for creatures that might actually be real, is this too much to ask?

    LOL

When this one started I looked over at my girlfriend with an excited look on my face,

"If they are ever going to find one..."

    "this isn't it!"

I miss the first season where they had eyewitness footage and pictures.

    On the other hand...

You know a creature is true and real when they name a pro hockey team after them...

New Jersey Devils - The Official Web Site

Another thing that bothers me just a bit, is the multiple bigfoot shows. You know, like looking for Sasquatch, Skunk Ape, Yeti, Wild Man, Swamp Monster etc.

Yeah I agree. Of all the ape ones my favourite was the Urang Pendek from the first season. That one was actually credible, they wern't looking for a 7ft tall man in a gorilla suit but a potentially real as yet undiscovered ape, the existence of which was actually a possibility.

True it's not an ape man or a monster like the Bigfoot, but at least it might actually exist, as the witnesses who attest to seeing it were credible scientific researchers working in the area over long periods of months and years and not some crazed toothless yokels.

Do you remember the one with the man ( I ALWAYS think of them as Trainer Monkey!) who swore as a child he was carried off by a thunderbird, I mean seriously that is just insane why even bother interviewing him.

Some episodes are brilliant though, the one about 'vampire killers' that despite the exaggerated title was about some unknown animal killing cattle. The evidence gathered suggest it might be leopards or jaguars (forget which) moving back into an area they weren't supposed to have been in for hundreds of years. But that was plausible and therefore MUCH more interesting than going on a wild goose chase for something that has at no point in the history of the universe ever existed.

I guess they have to play to the stupid American mass market rather than people who are actually interested in genuine mysteries.

Still I've gone this far and never missed an episode so I'll be watching it through to the end, even if like you I sigh whenever I hear its yet another Big Foot sighting somewhere in America.

Yeah, I remember the Thunderbird episode. It aired Thanksgiving week I believe. I remember looking forward to Turkey and Pumpkin Pie.

My least and most favorite episodes so far have been:

    Season 1
    Best: Lions In The Suburbs
    Worst: Stalin's Ape Man

    Season 2
    Best: Giant Bear Attacks
    Worst: Real Dragons

    Season 3
    So far...

    Best: Cattle Killers
    Worst: Devil's In New Jersey

Another show that I really enjoy is UFO Hunters.

You should watch those as well.

Yeah and the experts said that it wouldn't smell bad, but the locals said that the creature did. I don't give a fuck what you know: a 5 ft tall shaggy wet ass primate is going to stink like fuck.
