Default Question About John Conteh And Aaron Pryor.

Ok firstly i've been watching some John Conteh fights on youtube, i haven't really been interested in some of the fights happening lately. And to me he was a very smooth boxer/puncher with a good left jab.

I think he was robbed against Matthew Saad Muhammad who is one of my favorites. Despite John Conteh being downed twice in the 14th, he surely done enough after the 4th round by breaking up Matthew Saad Muhammad's face with pin-point stiff double left jabs.

And lets not forget that stuff Matthew Saad Muhammad had for his eye, which was an illegal substance. And i believe one of the trainer's got banned ? i don't really know much on it just what i read up.

But anyway i've seen a few John Conteh fights and how far could he have gone ? until he broke his right hand ? which made him a one handed fighter. Considering he was past his prime against Matthew Saad Muhammad and put up that kind of peformance, no question in my mind a 74 version of John Conteh would of beaten Matthew Saad Muhammad.

And one last question about Aaron Pryor, i recently see his fight against a very slick Gary Hinton. And i know Aaron Pryor was rusty and slightly past his prime. And despite Aaron Pryor coming on late and scoring a knockdown in the 14th.

He did have alot of trouble with the slick style of Gary Hinton, and only just about won a decision. Now im thinking people have often brought up Pernell Whitaker vs Aaron Pryor. And after seeing how bad Aaron Pryor struggled against a decent slick Southpaw in Gary Hinton.

No question in my mind Aaron Pryor would of got taught a bit of a lesson from Pernell Whitaker, my question is how did you see the fight ? and do you agree with my comments about Pernell Whitaker/Aaron Pryor ?

Pryor first: He found Coke post ArguelloI; by ArguelloII he had damaged his eye so bad that would in due course, be legally blind in that eye; so he retired post ArguelloII.

Cocaine is a hell of a drug though, expensive then too, so Pryor came back, but he was a shadow of the fighter he once was; he was awful against Hinton, but believe it or not, he got worse.....

I agree Conteh was a little unlucky against Matt, but remember back then, the USA was as bad as anyone for favouring home fighters (we the Brits, were just as bad), added to the fact that also, it was considered fair play that any benefit of the doubt be given to the defending Champion, there was little chance of Conteh winning that decision.

For all his great defense and reflexes Whitaker hit the floor a good amount of times in his career. I can easily see Pryor coming out fast, catching him and dropping him. But Whitaker would get up. And he would win the fight. Whitaker 9 rounds to 3. Or 8 to 4.

I could see that,a Whitaker win.Just too slippery, wiley and a firmly planted guy I think for onrushing Pryor...jabbing that chest hard back all night.Pryors aggresivness might have worked against him big time.

Haven't spoke to you since 2006 how you been BK ? i didn't know Aaron Pryor badly damaged his eye after the 2nd Alexis Arguello fight. I did know he started to have drug problems and that he got more and more inactive. Which lead to his razor thin win over Gary Hinton who from what i seen, wasn't a bad fighter at all.

I think most of them were from being cocky and over confident, or balance issues. I think the only real knockdown that hurt him was the one against Roger Mayweather.

I do see Aaron Pryor knocking Pernell Whitaker down, but i don't see him winning i see the fight much like you. I know Aaron Pryor was past his prime against Gary Hinton.

But i still think he would of struggled with Gary Hinton's slick Southpaw style, and really if he had that much trouble against Gary Hinton. He would of been taught a bit of a lesson from Pernell Whitaker.
