Default If HBO shows such a lack of class again...

Wow HBO was bullshit last night, I was so upset when they showed Cotto's family when he lost and they were crying, it was classless to do, and now they did it with the Hatton family again. I know its a indication that our whole society is fucked up, but they shouldn't show that, and when Hatton clearly didn't want to be shown on his way back to the locker room they should give him, his space.

I have just finished watching the HBO version just now actually.

I thought it was very distasteful of them to show Ricky walking out at the end. Surely a Hatton team member putting a hand and towel over the camera should have been warning enough. But no, they keep following all the way back to his room. Personally, I would have smashed the camera onto the floor stopping them in their tracks. But that's just me.

And yes, showing tearful family members isn't cool. Ricky was badly hurt in there, but there is no need to take away peoples dignity live on television by showing their distress.

HBO should quit with that kind of thing, because it really is in VERY poor taste.

They did the same thing when Cotto lost to Margarito. I don't have much of a problem with it, especially in Hatton's case since obviously with 24/7 he is used to the cameras and for as much as he got paid I'm not sure that was to bad. The showing of family members while their loved one is on another planet on the canvas is another thing, I think that's tacky and without taste.

I really don't see the problem with it, both fighters got something like $12,000,000 dollars each for the fight and Hatton's family have always been more than happy to have their faces plastered in the papers and push themselves forward on his 24/7 shows.

The money these guys earn (and hence their families get too) is so insane it puts them in the same level as Hollywood earners. If they want to take that much money from the public then they inevitably lose the right to some level of anonymity.

I have no problem at all with a couple of glancing camera shots into the crowd.

Don't forget that the family allowed themselves to be filmed on 24-7, and since the PPV was HBO as well, the fight is basically a continuation of everything. The main purpose of 24-7 is to bring awareness to mainstream fans who may not be hardcore fans about an upcoming fight. It does seem tasteless but Cotto and Hatton's family's are hardly the first to be taped when their family member get's his @ss handed to him.

That's the risk you take when you bring your family to watch you getting the living crap beat out of you and the cameras are rolling. I'm sure the Hatton clan cheered mightily the last time Hatton beat the crap out of someone. What goes around comes around.

I don't think money meant much to the family when they weren't sure if their guy was ever going to be the same. That's a sensitive moment, you could see his fiance was literally shaking it was no good.

As for the money, I really don't think Cotto's kids cared about the money their daddy earned when they were shown crying on TV by HBO. That is crossing the line don't you think? And I'm not one to get to riled up over these things either.

It's life mate, what about all the aid campaigns we watch with crying African children or people mourning their lost ones in a natural disaster. The camera doesn't turn away from them instead it focuses on them, the only difference here is that the people involved are mega rich superstars who put themselves and their families in the limelight to make a fortune and then can't complain when they get filmed when things go wrong.

By the way, have any fighters actually complained about this? Personally I think not showing their reactions would be censorship, seeing the worry and concern on his loved one's faces only serves to reinforce what a brutal sport boxing is.

They showed Ricky's girlfriend screaming after the PBF KO too.

    That's right.

And it doesn't just get put on tv for that one time. You get muppets on less tasteful sites putting up pictures, adding captions and taking the piss and thinking it's all one big joke. So, it doesn't just stay on HBO it ends up all over the place.

    Not nice at all.

I think you are too sensitive to be watching boxing.

Its just a continuum. We rant and cheer as they come in and follow them out after they fall. All the while the cameras rolling and at the front showing it all.You do notice usually that they only follow the defeated to the locker room though? Its been happening for the longest time on the major networks.Maybe its twisted but it sort of reflects the ease with which we mourn.Totally off topic, but collectively,'we' seem to have a knack for being seen mourning. How quickly do these constant public displays pop up,crowds gathered around dropping flowers, signing huge posters, every one sobbing and about 20 + cameras rolling.Seems to happen everyday with todays media.Shite,I just drove this car of a post off of the road and into the woods .
