    Escobedo Blows Out Kelley!

    By David Robinett at ringside
2004 U.S. Olympian Vicente Escobedo continued his rise from prospect to title contender with a two-round blowout of faded star Kevin Kelley in a scheduled ten-round lightweight bout on Thursday night at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, California. After a competitive first round, Escobedo caught Kelley with a counter right hook early in round two, sending the “Flushing Flash” to the canvas. Kelley beat the count but Escobedo was all over him, landing several unanswered punches along the ropes before Kelley went down again. Kelley barely beat the count but referee Jon Schorle waved it off at 1:53. With the win, Escobedo improves to 21-1, 13 KOs, while Kelley drops to 60-10-2, 39 KOs.

A shame really, I always liked him and even though he went on too far even a few years ago he could still hang on a certain level but this is getting a bit over the top, hopefully he doesn't go on much longer

Really liked Kelley, he was a really exciting fighter. His fight with Hamed was a classic tearup - Retirement is long overdue though

Agreed, very long overdue, he was a great fighter and he needs to be remembered that way. Time to hang em up Kev, no ones gonna forget you in a hurry.

It was actually a pretty fun night at arco last night, jordan kinda let me down but still some decent fights. Kelly had about as much chance i as figured he did.

I actually wanted to see this....now Im glad I missed it really.Kellys has always been as fast with his speech & self praise as he has been with his fists but thats no longer the case.Always a warrior...regardless of Gonzalez no-mas.His brutal ko comebacks against Rivera and Gainer when he was being beaten badly are the stuff of any top list.Time walk away Champ, please!!

    He's still fighting? I didn't know.

Sounds like he should hang them up, ten losses is enough. Especially if he is being stopped in 2.

He should of retired after Morales stopped him. But in reality he's been done for awhile. Even against Hamed he was passed his prime. A prime Kelley would of stopped Hamed. To Kelley's credit he still manage to score decent wins depite only being a shell of what he once was

He's gotta be very old for a super featherweight.

He was past his best when he lost to Nas over a decade ago.

    Was, don't live there anymore

Anyway, I was surprised, really surprised when he beat Famoso Hernandez a few years ago but this should be it really, wouldn't be shocked if it wasn't though. He was always fun to watch, pretty explosive, vulnerable but that was part of the fun.
