Question Calzaghe - Retired for good?

What are peoples thoughts on Calzaghe being retired for good? There have been a couple of developments since his retirement that may be good enough to tempt him out.

Court case - Seems to be a bit of a hollow victory for Calzaghe here. He won the case but the reports I have heard is that he is only going to end up getting about 200k or the Hopkins fight which is a relative pittance for arguably his biggest ever fight. These are just the reports I have heard so if anyone knows more please feel free to shed light on it. But with extensive legal costs and being robbed of the majority of his purse could he be tempted to come back?

Promotional company - Early reports that I have heard is that his promotional company have been struggling and making losses. They have had to cancel a number of events due to poor sales. Could Calzaghe be tempted to come back and headline a few of his own promotions to try and get the company up and running - similar to what Roy Jones is doing?

You would have to assume that Calzaghe is well set up for life but with his promotional company struggling early, losing most of the Hopkins purse and having to pay legal costs and also a costly divorce a few years ago, does anyone think the temptation to coe back for a million dollar fight would become to great, especially if he is missing the sport? Perhaps he culd be taking some time off and seeing what develops like Mayweather did.

At the moment I can only really see three possible candidates:

    1. Hopkins - Hopkins would relish a rematch Im sure and if he could add another impressive performance like against Pavlk soon then this fight could be a possibility. With the first fight being a contentious SD perhaps Calzaghe would like to set the record straight. If Hopkins and Dawson happened the winner would be a clear fight for Calzaghe if he wanted it.

    2. Dawson - The heir apparent to the LH division. Unbeaten, quite highly rated and a big fight Stateside. Ideally would like to beat Hopkins to truly own the division but undoubtadly a big LH fight.

    3. Froch - Probably the least likely in my view due to saleability but with Froch making waves through SM and taking on the big names could the temptition to come out and shut the Cobra up be there if Froch could get past Bute? I would assume Froch would be willing to give up weight advantages and move to LH for the fight which may be even more tempting for Calzaghe and then the opportunity to make it happen in the Millenium stadium to cap it all off.

    What are peoples thoughts?

Joe will stay retired and will not come back.

I don't think Joe has any motivation to fight on. I think he got out at a perfect time and is 100% financially secure.

Joe will be back in 2010, I'd bet my right nut on it.

He's so predictable, plus Enzo could do with a W.

He didn't marry her, she won't get any money. If her career doesn't do anything soon she'll probably do a kiss and tell in the papers but that's it. Meanwhile Joe appears to be after anything in a skirt and is starting to do celebrity stuff. It may be some time before he thinks about getting married again. I wonder if he's a better dancer than Holyfield. It'd be hard not to be.

If Froch were to go on and beat 3 huge names in his next fight then maybe Joe will consider it.. you always get the feeling someone like Joe isn't really going to retire for good, he loves the sport too much, kinda like Mayweather. I don't think he would come back to fight Hopkins though, Joe isn't much of a rematch man and IMO there isn't much case for a rematch, regardless of what hopkins fans and I thought (I thought the scorecards should of at least been alot closer) the judges had him ahead quite clearly.

Again with Dawson, if he were to beat some big names in his next few fights there's also a case there, but he's already wasted some precious time by taking a stupid rematch with Tarver. Money is always the issue though, and the biggest factor will be if Joe has enough money to last or if his bank dries up.

Although I would have liked to see him face BCD, I never thought he would be the type to make a comeback - Good for him.

If he did come back, which is a possibility slim but stranger things have happened, Froch would be the most ££££ rewarding.

Calzaghe knows his limits. He will not push his luck. He fought in the perfect time and retired at the perfect time.
