GBP: No Silver-Lining For Goldenboy Promotions

Goldenboy Promotions as a whole must be feeling awfully shaky now days. Oscar has retired, and despite two of the best victories of their respective careers, both Bernard Hopkins and Shane Mosley have probably had to check their phones for service after noticing that they haven't been ringing much lately. Kirkland's on ice for a minute, Hatton's promotional pact means little after that shellackin' he took at the hands of Pacquiao, Haye is out of action, and now Marquez stands without a partner after Mayweather stepped back. Sure, they have youngsters like Jacobs, Lara, and Ortiz in the mix, but neither will be in position to take part in a mega fight anytime soon. So where does this leave the Goldenboy relative to the big landscape in today's fight game? With no obvious answers on the table, what next? Kinda hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and from my angle, I'm not sure if the one I think I see coming is a weak possibility, or simply a train that has no breaks. Schaefer is great for whipping things up. He's a helluva brain behind the desk. Much like Calderon, with his back against the wall, he now also has to go out and prove it. We'll see what happens next.

I am absolutely not worried a minute, these things happen and GoldenBoy has its kidney solids enough to sustain it without flinching, especially as they made money like crazy in the past two years. It's just a matter of time before the tables turn right back in place again, they still have other top boxers around the corner like Andrade that will likely fight again and I am more worried about companies like Main Event that used to be the pinnacle of boxing but that are much weaker now with very little beside Joel Julio and Adamek.

GBP is the biggest promoter in the sport right now, you see their names on cards that they don't even have fighters on....

There is nothing shakey about GBP...They will be around for a long time to come

Not too mention they sign fighters quicker then greased lightning

Golden Boy is fine. Without a doubt they are number 1 they have tons of big name fighters and fighters with big futures.

On a side note I know Pacquiao is with Top Rank, but why is Pacquiao considered a Golden Boy fighter on the Goldenboy website?

BEcause Top Rank and Golden Boy did reach an agreement on the Pacman case; to make a long story quick: Pacman did sign in first time a thing with top rank stipulating he doesn't have the right to sign with anybody before his list fight is over.
PAcman then signed with GoldenBoy before the fight got over (this last fight was under Top Rank Copyright).
He then re-signed a deal with Arum while normally the deal with goldenboy was effective.
They went to court and they found a settlement: Pacman belongs to top Rank for every fights except for the fights where he fights a goldenboy stable fighter, then GoldenBoy has the right over some special percentage (something like 50% if I recall) of the money Bob would normally do. So.. theorically, he's a goldenboy fighter too, just partly but indeed.
